Roy Herron is a Tennessee senator, attorney, and former minister. A professional speaker, he also teaches divinity and law at Vanderbilt University. He authored "Things Held Dear: Soul Stories for My Sons" and coauthored "Tennessee Political Humor: Some of These Jokes You Voted For." He and his wife, Nancy, have three sons, John, Rick, and Ben.

"Cotton" Ivy -- a professional humorist who's also served in both the legislative and executive branches of Tennessee government -- and Roy Herron, a current state senator, have compiled a good-natured compendium of tales about famous Tennessee politicians from Davy Crockett to Al Gore. There are plenty of wonderful stories here. Although the co-authors are both Democrats (Herron was the state chair for Gore's presidential campaign), there are good stories about figures from both parties here. The photos are great, too, with some interesting little historical tidbits in the captions. If you can't get Cotton Ivy to come and speak in person, this is the next best thing.
