The book was adequate, but would have been much better if he had left his partisan politics out of it. His reference to the Great Depression as the Hoover depression I thought undermined his credibility. He carried his partisanship to the level of the absurd however when he failed to mention why governor Ray Blanton (a Democrat ) was forced out of office early.

Professor Corlew does an outstanding job covering the history of the Volunteer state. A must read for anyone interested in the history of this area

I have several histories of Tennessee. Each has a slightly different perspective. This one is detailed, but not engaging.
