I bought this book at the Paducah, Ky quilt show where there was a huge tent of "Quilt in a Day". All of Eleanor Burns designs are simple yet elegant and I love her patterns. However, after investing quite a bit in her books, and not knowing her style, I must say it was a terrrible dissappointment. I am used to traditional and accurate piecing where everything is cut exactly to the measurements and sewn with a perfect 1/4 seam. This whole line of "Quilt in a Day" was quite a nightmare for me because it is a method in which you over compensate in cutting and then trim down after you make the block or pieces for the block. I find this to be a terrible waste of fabric and more difficult to piece accurately. I tried a few patterns from other books and found that once I trimmed the block pieces to fit, the centering was off, and my points did not even come close to matching. Im certainly not a show quilter, but I have been quilting for at least 10 years, and have never had a problem of my seams and points being that far off as they are when I use these book instructions. Since Tennessee Waltz was one of my favorite designs I saw in Paducah, I waited a long time to finally start the project, picking and choosing my colors to perfection. When I went to purchase what I needed for a queen size of this quilt, I was astounded that I was instructed to buy over 13 yards of fabric to make the quilt!!! Finally, I decided to buy around 9 yards which will be way more than enough (never hurts the stash), and instead of following the instructions, I am using my Tri-Recs tool (which can be purchased from most quilting catalogs or Joann Fabrics) to piece the most difficult part, which is the triangle unit and the rest is simple calculation of squares.Read more ›

Clear instructions and great how-to illustrations. She provides yardage measurements for different size and borders. I like how she provides suggestions to make variations quilt pattern, by making more octogon snowball or Kaleidoscope snowball block by using either small/med/large scale prints to change the look of the quilt, examples shown in the book. Beautiful quilts. Recommend.

I already had a copy of this book, but since I was ordering another item, I decided to order this book for a friend of mine. Now she won't have to borrow mine. The book is very easy to understand and has plenty of pictures to follow.

I love this book! The directions are clear and easy to understand. I put the quilt top together and it is beautiful. I can't wait to get it all together with top stitching. Don't let the picture on the front cover fool you, there are may different photos of this quilt inside, using different colors and layouts getting a new effect each time. If you like the Quilt in a Day books, you will love this one.

Great book. I'm anxious to get at sewing this quilt. I've found that if you follow Eleanor's instructions step by step, you won't go wrong. I've tried to second guess her but it don't work.

This is a great quilting pattern. I enjoyed making it, it goes fairly quickly for a quilt with many pieces. I was happy with the number of pictures in the book to give you many ideas of how it would look with different numbers of fabrics and colors. A classic.
