5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books on the Theory of Coaching Tennis, October 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Tennis Course Vol. 2: Lessons & Training (Paperback)
Again, the Deustcher Tennis Bund authorities come up with a comprehensive gem! The earlier book in the Tennis Course series wasn't as strong but this volume is one of the definite books on Coaching Tennis. It is highly theoretical so it doesn't give coaches or teachers the practical side.

Students may not find this book useful, but any parent of a competitive player might find it valuable to see what theory is out there and if their pro/coach uses them. Coaches can use this resource which is "unpolitical" so it doesn't concern itself with subjectivity (which many coaching books do!).

Most other coaching books don't address theory. It is a bit dry and can be more creative but it ranks with the International Tennis Federation's Advanced Coaches Manual and Chuck Kriese's Coaching Tennis.

4.0 out of 5 stars prefect book for Volume 2., October 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tennis Course Vol. 2: Lessons & Training (Paperback)
The book was quite good. Lots of information. Mostly pretaining to the coaches and instruction and not so much to the strokes. Different training sequences, nuitrition, approaches to training, skill sets from beginning to competitive, from children to the seniors, etc.

I wish they had some information on video-taping . . . it is not widely used today and is an excellent means of identifying your own stroke production. The camera can be set up to video tape yourself either hitting against a machine or against a person with someone operating the camera so that a stray ball doesn't destroy it.

The Volume 2 also did not have a DVD insert . . . but that would increased the cost of production to beyond my level . . . even with the Amazon discount.

It is an excellent companion to the Volume 1. The first volume takes on the individual shots, tactics, ball spins, etc. The second volume takes on the teaching aspect of tennis.
