When Jackie Roberts entered her nine-year old son in his first novice tournament, she had no inkling of the ride she was about to take. While her son won his first tournament, Jackie's primary memory was how naive she was about competitive junior tennis. After getting a crash course in tournament etiquette, as she humorously recounts in her preface, she returned home wondering if she had the stomach to be a tennis parent.
Her son's enthusiasm for the sport overcame her reservations, and she embarked on a journey for which she had no road map. Tournaments, rankings, expenses, tennis programs, coaches, nutrition, balancing school, family, friends, tennis, and going on to college tennis are all in her book.
In a voice that is warm, direct, and practical, and with an abiding fondness for the sport itself, she offers parents a "guided tour" through the maze of junior tennis.
