"Hip and shoulder rotation," and "weight transfer." How many times have we heard these phrases used to describe what we should be doing to hit the ball. I know I've heard them a few thousand times, but I've never heard anyone explain, exactly, what they mean. I always assumed they meant: turn your body and lean into it. Frank Early breaks the concepts down to surprisingly precise detail and makes them easy for even a hacker like me to incorperate into my strokes. This is a great book!

I am a 3.5 level player, but my shots were inconsistant. I could not really pinpoint what it was about a shot that made it good (or bad as was often the case) until I picked up this book. Unlike the other books that I read around this time, it does not merely offer hitting tips - rather it focuses on the mechanics of a stroke. The author has also inserted a bunch of relevant photos of pro tennis players executing a stroke to illustrate his point. I found that very useful.

A short easy read. It's only a little over 100 pages and almost half the pages are pictures of professional players in action. IMO: The best thing about this book is that it's free from defective advice (which is saying a lot for a book on tennis strokes -- regardless of who wrote it). Worth a read even if you're a teaching pro or advanced player.

A good representation of what is common to all good tennis strokes. Emphasis is on common denominators that can be applied quickly and effectively. A very effective book.

This is by far the best instructional tennis book I ever read, and believe me, as a tennis nut who breathes tennis, I've read almost all of them. It is only 123 pages, but this is true testimony that good, quality books need not be long. I've read some tennis books that are huge manuals with pages of worthless frame-by-frame pictures. The beauty of this book is it's simple. I think everyone will appreciate that. And it need not lots of pictures to tell you how to truly play the game. I am an intermediate tennis player and I find the information to be very helpful and it is so simple, beginners will really learn from it, too. If you are a beginner, don't waste your money on tennis lessons, videos, or other books. You ONLY need this book. If you are an avid tennis fan, get this book and a subscription to Tennis Magazine to keep up with the news. Tennis is soooo simple after you read this book, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Why is this book good and why is it worth your money? I feel that it really is worth its cost because it offers excellent analysis on the strokes of the pros. I often hear conventional tennis instructors talk about how it is wrong to try to copy the pros. This is entirely wrong... why not copy the best, the most talented, the most dedicated? This book helps you do exactly that. The pros went through the trial and error process and the thousands of hours of practice to perfect their timing, rhythm, and feel. The pros have the best strokes and it is very obvious when one compares this to the avg club player. I believe this is an excellent book because it analyzes the strokes of the best of the game and tells you how to apply this to your game. It helps you improve and is simply excellent.

The individual concepts here are strong, but the real strength of the instruction is the larger paradigm. This book gave me a new way of viewing my own strokes, and I suspect it will do the same for most readers. Sometimes, our games get in a rut and we need a new angle. (This is where I was when I picked up the book.) The word "breakthrough" in the subtitle is appropriate. The most practical instruction I've ever read. I can't say enough about it.

I am an average player hoping to pick up some tips to improve my game -- I got a few from this book, but really was expecting more -- it helped my find a glitch in my serve, which was worth the price of the book, but the other strokes were not very well described -- wanted some assistance in refining top spin and back spin, which this book did not have much to offer -- worth the 8 bucks, but not much more...

Just great instruction. This guy knows his stuff and gets it through. A lot cheaper than private lessons.

is just awesome! I went from being a 1.0-1.5 player to being a 4.0 just using Frank's book. Before I could hardly hit solid groundstrokes and now I'm doing it with ease. Great job, Frank!
