Check out this "Tent", February 11, 2003
This review is from: Tent of Miracles (Audio CD)
I was lucky enough to find this CD in a record store in the "budget/cut out bin" for like 5 bucks. I took a chance on it because I had just seen Spirit live at a small bar in Chicago. Ironically, they were touring to support this album/CD. The disc is pretty good. There are several tunes that are catchy like "tent of miricles" and "deep in this land". There is a cool instrumental called borderline. If your a Spirit fan, you'll like this CD. Not their best work, but definitely worth owning.

Late But Great Effort From A Complex and Imaginative Band, October 12, 2007
This review is from: Tent of Miracles (Audio CD)
Tent of Miracles is a complex and surprisingly satisfying effort. After some ups and downs with several of the preceding studio and live releases, Randy hits the nail squarely with this collection of ballads and searing guitar-laden rockers. The whimsy of the mini-political anthem (Logical Answers) to the power chords of Deep In This Land the CD will take you back to the glory days of Spirit and Sardonicus. As usual, Randy demonstrates exceptional versatility as a guitarist and composer, one of the reasons the family continues to release home studio out-takes because many were so close to studio quality. Randy left this world with a selfless act of heroism, saving his young son's life, and his music continues to stir the hearts of fans to this day. Strongly recommended.

Great pup-Tent of Spirit Indie Miracles, September 12, 2011
One of the very first sets of post "golden 4" Spirit collections was the "Live From The Time Coast" set, which really got me into the other tunes and amazing guitar of Randy California. I joined Amazon to complete those pieces of the puzzle I couldn't get anywhere else. It's as base of a disc there could be in the early 90's. Simple single fold booklet with no extra anything and simple titles/credit for songs on the back. A lot like "Chronicles". Ahhh, but the music... In the notes of the Time Coast release, Mick Skidmore promised a expanded re-release, but I say, don't wait. Sure you can hear most of these tracks on the great live albums/collections, but I say if you get into Randy's music like I did, this becomes essential listening.
The overall feel on this disc is more stripped down rock and roll. It has a bit of an 80's hangover as some of the music has a "new digital" hollowness to it. Ahhh, but California didn't go crazy with synths and overproduction like he did on Rapture In The Chambers. "Borderline" is an excellent starter of Ed Cassidy's drums and Randy's guitar and does not stop. "Zandu" is one of Randy's best tunes period. "Logical Answers" is a fun tune with a great back story told on one of the live sets. "Stuttgart Says Good-bye" has a great "Spirit" sound. "Love From Here" really sticks in your head. Mike Nile also adds to this with the great "Tent Of Miracles" and "Old Black Magic" and others. From start to finish, I'd say this was a return to more of the rock and roll/blues sound with great stuff by all and great songwriting as well.
If you're looking for a place to start with Randy's post 5 member Spirit output, start with "Time Coast" then seek this out.
