From Wall Street to Wal-Mart, tales of widespread sex discrimination fill the news. Even in the hallowed hallways of academia, sex discrimination continues to be a serious problem. Tenure Denied examines sex discrimination cases that were supported by the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund during the past 20 years. As this report makes clear, sex discrimination in academia can take a heavy toll on the professional and personal lives of women faculty, and remediation through the courts is often a costly, time-consuming legal process. Victory is possible, although not always in time for the individual women at the center of these cases. Tenure Denied concludes with recommendations for female faculty and institutions of higher education.
