punk?,
By mickey fonx (sacramento, ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tera Melos (Audio CD)
these fine young gentlemen that make up tera melos are nothing but top notch jazz musicians. they blend chaotic whrilwinds of thrash/noise with intricate guitar work and occasional electronic fairy sprinkles. this is like nothing i have heard before, but if i had to compare it to anything it would be if the dillinger escape plan had an unprotected threesome with american football and herbie hancock's teeth. if you have the chance please see them live. the shows are generally very cheap and nutty. they have the best live show i have ever seen. no description will do them justice so just see for yourself lazy bones.

One of the best,
This review is from: Tera Melos (Audio CD)
With so many incredible artists already playing this kind of style, it can be hard to create a sound that stands out and grabs your attention. Well, it is an understatement to say that these guys have, by far, accomplished that. This self-titled release is filled to the brim with intertwining guitar work, killer jazz chops, intricate yet flowing drum playing, and the undeniable ability to rock out like nothing you've ever heard. You'd never expect that such epic prog-rockers would have started their musical carreers playing in successful hardcore punk bands. With an incredible, in-your-face first release and an and always talked about live show, Tera Melos is sure to make an impression on the Jazz/prog/punk scene very quickly.

Great CD,

I bought this cd based on liking one of the tracks on their Myspace. To be honest this is an awesome cd but it won't be to everyone's tastes. If you like complicated (but not too complicated) music with hooks here and there, and jazz and perhaps a little bit of heavy music then you will like it. It's not jazz in the sense of Miles Davis or whatever but more in the rhythms and the way that there is much syncopation leaving you guessing whether they can bring it all back in together. Some of the melodies are fantastic and the drumming equally so. Melodys 4, 6 and 7 are my favourite. The band reminds me somewhat of the now split up UK band called "The Jesus Years" so if you like Tera Melos check them out too. Only bad point: the last track, it's a bit of a waste really, just some free jazz noise.
