4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but not excellent
In the suburbs of Dallas, this unit works well. We are able to get most of the local channels to supplement our DirecTV channels. There isn't as much adjustment as we would like but we are satisfied with the overall performance. It does much better than the powered indoor antenna that we had been using. We wouldn't recommend it for more rural users because we don't...

1.0 out of 5 stars Incompatible with single receiver systems
Nowhere in the description or packaging does it say that this antenna requires a satellite multiswitch. A multiswitch is used for systems using more than 1 TV/receiver. The antenna amplification comes from the satellite multiswitch, and without amplification, this antenna is no better than a pair of simple rabbit ears.

This antenna may work great for those with multi-room satellite setups, but it was worthless for me.

I have a dishnetwork 942 HDTV DVR system. This antenna is designed for a much older system. It doesn't fit the dish very easily and was difficult to secure. I can't tell if it works because so far it just seems to be incompatible with my system.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible HDTV Antenna, August 16, 2005

This antenna was a tremendous waste of money. It did not do any of the things advertised on Amazon.com or Terk.com. I could only barely receive 1 station and that picture was very poor quality. I can get 3 channels with rabbit ears and they are much better quality. It also significantly reduced, 10-15%, the signal reception on all 3 satellite LNB's. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for an HDTV antenna. This poor quality device added to the poor quality of DirecTV in general makes me wish everyday that I had stayed with Cable TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars super reception terk 44, October 12, 2008
This review is from: Terk TV44 Amplified Clip-on Outdoor TV Antenna for Dual LNB Satellite Dishes (Electronics)
Works better than any antenna I've tried before. Just remember it needs to be powered by your dish receiver. The Dish receiver doesn't need to be turned on but it powers the antenna to receive reception. terk tv44 works with the new multi lnb and the terk tv42 only works with the old dish single lnb's.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying., August 25, 2009
This review is from: Terk TV44 Amplified Clip-on Outdoor TV Antenna for Dual LNB Satellite Dishes (Electronics)
I spent at least 1 hour trying to adjust the antenna to bring in local stations which are only 5 miles away. Could get UHF but was unable to get the VHF stations to come in with enough power to view. Very disappointing antenna. I got better results with rabbit ears.

4.0 out of 5 stars What they don't tell you..., February 8, 2008
This review is from: Terk TV44 Amplified Clip-on Outdoor TV Antenna for Dual LNB Satellite Dishes (Electronics)
I already have a TV42 (round dish) antenna and it has worked perfectly for years and years so I presume the TV44 (oval dish) would also work flawlessly.
Here's the whole story...
I've been a DirecTV subscriber for a long time but my area's market size (pop. 225,000) appears to be too small for DirecTV to offer local channels. With normal DirecTV service and analog broadcasts from local stations, the TV42 antenna served us very, very well.
Santa let me purchase a new HDTV for Christmas so I also made arrangements to have a new 5LNB oval DirecTV HDTV dish installed. I ordered the TV44 antenna for it and was going to have the DirecTV installer put it in along with the new dish.
The TV42 and TV44 antennae are both amplified and draw their power from a satellite receiver in your system. Both models require the use of diplexers to split the over-the-air signal from the satellite signal and to be sure the power passes properly to the antenna's amplifier. The DirecTV installer told me that any diplexer installed in a line carrying HDTV satellite signals will knock out the majority of the HDTV signals -- it will still work but it won't be HiDef.
I didn't want to take any chances, so I had them install the new HDTV satellite equipment without an antenna of any kind. After the installer left, I ran additional (new) coax from my old TV42 antenna (still mounted on the old round dih) to my various televisions. The over-the-air part of my setup is pretty much a standalone system now; the Sat/OTA signals never share the same coax. I've got one of my old receivers in the OTA system just to supply power to the antenna's amp.
Whew! That was a pretty long story. Anyway, while I cannot swear to the accuracy of the DirecTV installer's assessment of the Diplexer/HDTV situation, it would appear that DirecTV subscribers should excercise due caution here if they want HDTV service. The installer mentioned that they didn't know of the problem at first and had to go back to a number of customers to 'fix' it afterward.

I have had this on my Dish system for years. Picks up local HD and regular channels just fine. We are too far from the metro (live in southern MN) and it picks up locals from rochester, austin, mankato great. It is currently on our dual tuner HD DVR and we have had no issues with it. Best part is we can also record locals with the dvr, so at times we are able to record 3 programs at once!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Coverage - a bit tight to fit, September 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Terk TV44 Amplified Clip-on Outdoor TV Antenna for Dual LNB Satellite Dishes (Electronics)
This is my second Terk TV44 - the former zapped in a terrible storm. I live approximately 65 miles from the Dallas area and this antenna provides 36 channels with signal strength measured by my Dish receiver at 85-100%. Works very well but would assume that terrain will be the greatest factor in determining signal pull. A bit of a tight fit on the Dish HD antenna, but discovered that if you completely remove the tightening disks and install with the antenna in place it is an easy job. (Removal of the disks not in the instructions).
