This review is from: Terminal City Ricochet: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Before the movie was released on DVD, this soundtrack on Alternative Tentacles Records was essentially a "stand alone;" though the dark comedy on the merging of politics and consumerism garnered solid reviews on the festival circuit, it rarely aired on TV.
The dozen tracks lean heavily on Jello Biafra - who stars in the picture - and D.O.A., but the real gems are a trifecta from Evan Johns & The H-Bombs ("Madhouse," which has elements from the best of the early Stooges), NoMeansNo ("It's Catching Up") and The Groovaholics ("Pull the Trigger, Sunshine!"). Keith LeBlanc and Biafra team up for the hilarious and eerie "Message From Our Sponsor/Object-Subject," which aptly describes the struggle for personal freedom from the government jackals who yearn to smash it all for "national security." The other performers are The Beatings, Gerry Hannah, Art Bergmann and I, Braineater. That the album remains in print demonstrates the strong feelings Biafra still has for this project....that there is a growing urgency in the theme presented by the artists clearly demonstrates something else.

This is a really good soundtrack with lots of good songs that you don't get to really hear well in the movie. Yes I have the movie but I feel it may time to rip the sucker off that 8 year old VHS and get it digitized. I fear I may lose it forver otherwise.

Without a doubt this is my favourite soundtrack album. There's not a bad song on here. DOA don't always deliver the goods (anyone remember Let's Wreck the Party?), but the 3 they have here are perfect (the one with Biafra might be the best though). Nomeansno kill with It's Catching Up, and this version of Falling Space Junk is way better than the remake on the album with Jello. Art Bergman is one of Canada's best songwriters (shamefully underappreciated), and War Party doesn't disappoint. Man, I could go on forever about this album. I could go on even longer about the movie, which was a hellovalotta fun despite and because of its cheese factor {I actually managed to tape a copy of the movie when it was on pay tv back in the early 1990s). If you like anything that was put out by Alternative Tentacles in the 1980s, you've gotta pick this up ... and pull the trigger sunshine!
