Book Description

November 15, 1998
Imagine: you're critically injured in a horrible accident. Rushed to the emergency room, you're fighting for your life. But once you're there, no one tries to help you. Instead, you're locked in a dark room with rows of comatose patients; just lying there-- not dying, but not living either...

Imagine: you're a promising young doctor at New York's most prestigious hospital. You're there to save lives, but you soon find out that the hospital is run on greed and malice, rather than compassion. Horrific human experiments are taking place. People are being robbed of vital fluids. And for some reason, no one seems concerned with healing the sick...

Here is a horrifying medical thriller with a premise so plausible you'll think twice about entering another hospital. Master of medical suspense David Shobin, bestselling author of The Center and The Unborn, has done it again-- he's crafted a chilling tale so rich with intrigue, action, and excitement, you won't put it down until the last heart-pounding page.

Terminal Fear. Terminal Greed. Terminal Condition.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Curious things are happening at New York's Metropolitan Hospital Center: fat mice are learning to run the equipment and dubious research is being conducted on brain trauma patients. As the hospital death rate rises, Todd Langford, M.D., and pretty med student Jordan Parker-Ross?a patient being treated for a head injury?begin to investigate. Jordan proves particularly helpful when she mysteriously gains the ability to sense when people are lying. The duo soon discovers a Mob link through patient Salvatore Aiello, as Dr. Langford races to restore his rapidly deteriorating mind. While Shobin (The Center) creates believable atmosphere, readers may find that his medical jargon hinders the pace of his thriller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspense!, April 30, 2000
This review is from: Terminal Condition (Paperback)
This book is a real page turner. It was my first Shobin novel and I kept comparing him to Robin Cook. I must say his characters are much more believable than Cook's. Above all the woman protagonist, because this is where Cook almost infallibly fails. I appreciated, too, that Shobin did not elaborate too much in scientific explanations. This would have killed the tension. I will certainly read all the other novels by David Shobin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Master of Medical Mystery, January 4, 1999

This review is from: Terminal Condition (Paperback)
This is the first of David Shobin's books that I've read. I have been a fan of Micheal Palmer - mover over Michael. David weaves an erie tale of bizarre medical research and a quest to find the answer. It is one of those books that truly grabs you from the beginning and DOESN'T LET GO. This is the kind of book that I need to hold my attention.

Congrats David. I shall read you again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Terminally boring, September 19, 2002

When I read the back of the book I thought it would have been a real medical thriller. I found it rather bland. It took a while to get into it. The idea behind the book reminded me of a Robin Cook book I read. The story did pickup and there was a lot of suspense but the end was a real disappointment.
