Editorial Reviews

Review

A gripping and compelling story that brings to light the challenge of modern medicine in the age of industrialized managed healthcare. A good and powerful read, and I learned a lot. His thoughtful prose and insightful humor gently walked me through the most complex computer systems. -- Dan Kearney, CEO, Psychiatric Hospital-Orlando

A lively, engaging, and fascinating story that shines a scrutinizing light into the dark corners of healthcare. Richly drawn characters in all too common struggles. -- A. Nicholas Groth, Ph.D. Psychologist, President, Forensic Mental Health Associates

Riveting, exciting, and alarming - pushes us face-first into a kind of heathcare management that only George Orwell could have foreseen. -- Dick Finnegan, The Executive Speaker

TERMINAL CONSENT is an exciting and terrifying account of medicine gone awry. The novel is both illuminating and shocking in its depiction of managed care practices that are fast becoming commonplace. Clever, lively, and easily understood. -- J. Ted Giuffrida, M.D., Florida Radiology Associates

TERMINAL CONSENT was absolutely wonderful. The situation that I read about are a part of my world and I was scared down to my shoes! Thank you for this tremendous story. -- Gail Farmer, RN, Director of Utilization Review

Terminal Consent is a damn good read, rich, vivid, and terrifyingly real. Most important, it is an alarming picture of what may lie ahead for medicine as managed care and computers squeeze the humanity out of health care. -- Frank Pittman,MD, author ofPrivate Lies, Man Enough, and Grow Up!

Timely, germane, and relevant. A medical thriller attuned to the direction medicine is heading. -- Dr. Dean Edell, Nationally Syndicated Physician, KGO-TV, San Francisco

5.0 out of 5 stars Terminal Consent is a great read., August 5, 1999

This review is from: Terminal Consent (Paperback)
"Michael Freeny skillfully weaves between several subplots as the story unfolds and the tension builds. The book highlights the dangers of financially driven medicine and the terrifying ease which people can use computer systems to invade our confidential files. Every time I see a Where's Waldo (or Wally as he's called in the UK) book in future I will be reminded of Terminal Consent - but you will have to read it to find out why!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insider's view of technology gone awry, January 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Terminal Consent (Paperback)
Freeny achieves a balance between writing to those with a primary interest in health care delivery but with no background in computing, and those who are highly computer literate but not necessarily aware of current issues in managed care. By appealing to both ends of this spectrum, he greatly expands the audience for this book. Readers, who fall somewhere in the middle of this continuum, will find his illustrations all too realistic and hauntingly familiar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right on book about healthcare gone crazy., May 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Terminal Consent (Paperback)
I haven't "had time" to read fiction in about 10 years. I forgot how fun and enlightening it can be. Freeny does an amazing job of high-tech talk in human terms. And it's so true.
