5.0 out of 5 stars Oprah's Next Best-Seller!
Terminal Neglect was truly a page-turner from start to finish! The saga of Dr. Rogers is one that we can all relate to... finding the ability to make the right decision when nothing seems right. He teaches us to follow our dreams and to never compromise our beliefs. The story will keep you reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars Big bad pharma...again
This was a mediocre medical thriller with a fairly old story line -- big bad pharma makes a new drug and gets greedy in order to recoup their investment and make millions. Of course there is the hero doctor with a big conscience who won't compromise his personal ethics and that resistance comes at a huge cost. So, nothing new here with the plot and cardboard characters...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Greed is Good".....reading!, December 9, 2008
This review is from: Terminal Neglect (Hardcover)
"Terminal Neglect" is a classic medical thriller through and through, suspenseful and well written with characters that are so real that you almost feel like you are there with them.

Dr. Michael Rushnak brings us into the dark world of pharmaceuticals, politics and profits. As a physician myself, I appreciate realism in medical thrillers and this one was right on the money. "Terminal Neglect" captures what can happen when rogue industry giants are paired with corrupt politics.

The book is centered on Dr. Jonathan Rogers, state commissioner of health. His trouble begins shortly after he makes it clear that he is not willing to play ball with any politician willing write a legislative blank check to the pharmaceutical giants. The good doctor is shot, driven off the road and has his daughter kidnapped and the action doesn't end until the end.

I enjoyed the tightly written plot which was bathed realism. It would not have surprised me to have seen this story on 60 minutes. I can't wait to see where Michael Rushnak takes us next

I thoroughly enjoyed Terminal Neglect and couldn't help but see it play out in my head as a Hollywood blockbuster as I was reading. Excellent action, intrigue, great character development and plot twists. This would be one of those movies where you wouldn't dare leave to use the restroom! Excellent work, Dr. Rushnak -- Jean Holzer

3.0 out of 5 stars Big bad pharma...again, April 28, 2011
This review is from: Terminal Neglect (Hardcover)
This was a mediocre medical thriller with a fairly old story line -- big bad pharma makes a new drug and gets greedy in order to recoup their investment and make millions. Of course there is the hero doctor with a big conscience who won't compromise his personal ethics and that resistance comes at a huge cost. So, nothing new here with the plot and cardboard characters who are quite cliche.

Dr. Jonathan Rogers is tapped to be Surgeon General by the current US President. Because of his personal moral stand against giving blanket approval to certain practices by the pharmaceutical industry, however, he is targeted for reprisal. He is shot, he's diagnosed with lung cancer, his daughter is kidnapped, and his entire personal and professional life starts to unravel. Who can he trust? Everyone has an agenda to advance themselves into positions of power.

Dr. Rogers and his estranged wife Kim are told not to contact authorities about their missing daughter or she will be killed. Doctors Choice Pharmaceuticals -- the manufacturer of a new cancer drug, seems to be implicated in both the kidnapping and in all the other things that are happening in Jonathan's life. Will he be able to stop the evil pharmaceutical industry and a secret organization of people in positions of high authority called The Health Club, from pushing their drug and encouraging oncologists to prescribe it to cancer patients even though the drug has not proved efficacious in the treatment of most of those cancers?

The book moved along quickly with shuffles between point of view and different characters. Although a completely predictable read, it did require some suspension of disbelief as the cross and double cross of the characters played out.

Pass on this one! I'm a lover of medical thrillers and this story line is tired. I think most people know that the pharmaceutical industry is a huge business and that sometimes they get greedy as new drugs cost so much to bring to the market. How about something NEW?

"Terminal Neglect will sweep you away! This is an amazing book that kept me engaged, enthralled and, well, neglectful of some personal chores! Dr. Rushnak's medical thriller is destined to become the most read and talked about medical thriller of the year. I can hardly wait for the movie!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Terminal Neglect, October 22, 2008
This review is from: Terminal Neglect (Hardcover)
Terminal Neglect is a great read. It is a page turner from start to finish. Dr. Rushnak has turned his characters into real life. They come complete with believable weaknesses, emotions & courage that one would expect from everyday people. I find myself wondering if there really is a Health Club. Reading this book made a very long trip to Asia seem quick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terminal Neglect by Michael Rushnak, MD, March 8, 2011
This review is from: Terminal Neglect (Hardcover)
Intrigue, murder, politics! This is an engaging and thrilling read from page one. Do you like medical mysteries and political thrillers? You'll love it! While it's an easy read, it has a complex and unpredictable plot. The author has a real insider's knowledge, and is able to put himself inside the primary character's head, heart, and soul. Do you wonder why America's healthcare system is so fraught with peril? Immerse yourself in this fictional account, and wonder no more. Dr. Rushnak paints a vivid picture of the political corruption that has invaded our system. And, just when you thought it might be safer....I understand there may be a second novel on it's way!

I finished this fine novel last evening & wanted to call all my friends to tell them about this marvelous thriller. Here is a story that is relevant to our times, & thought-provoking as to inspiring us to be more aware of how much we could be manipulated by powerful leaders in positions which could determine our future. It was a wild ride that was thoroughly engrossing.
