5.0 out of 5 stars Submarine Technology
It is refreshing to read a book on submarine technology where the author is intimately familiar with existing methods, procedures and technologies. Demecurio certainly is, and he uses to the best advantage. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes tales of submerged warfare.

1.0 out of 5 stars one of the worst!
I have read all of this author's work to date, this is by far the worst! I suppose if you'd never been aboard a submarine, and/or were a Women's Rights Advocate, or a techno geek you might like it, but...

Within a few pages we are introduced to "power women", SEALS, Officers aboard submarines, etc., even carrier based air squadron commanders. The hero here,...

The hero here, son of the previous hero, is Patch Jr., a midshipman at Annapolis. Within a few minutes of reporting aboard a submarine at New London, he is given the "con" (as in command of the ship) to get her underway by pulling a daredevil driving stunt...this would never, ever happen. Within a few days of being at sea, he is sleeping with the engineering officer (a great argument against women on submarines)...and the techno stuff gets so confusing eventually you simply want to give up trying to follow any of the concurrent plots.

This one is a waste of time, effort and brain cells!

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Pacinos, better than one!, November 2, 2002
This review is from: Terminal Run (Paperback)
I am a big fan of this series, and Mr. DiMercurio has not failed to keep me hooked with his latest installment. "Terminal Run" is a highly character driven and action packed novel that doesn't let you go until the last page. The twist that he throws at the end is unpredictable, and innovative for a book of this genre.

There are a few authors, like John Sandford with his "Prey" novels, that can keep continuing characters, and the situations that they face, fresh and unique to the prior books in their series. Mr. DiMercurio is one of those who able to accomplish this difficult task. His main characters age and have careers that are realistic. They are also not omnipotent and without flaws.

He is also able to tweak your imagination with the potential capabilities of future military hardware. The hardware is not perfect, and goes through a real-world evolutionary growth process. It truly makes you wonder what equipment the Navy is carrying on our new Seawolf class and upcoming Virginia class submarines.

My only disappointment in reading "Terminal Run" is that I have to wait for his next installment. As with all of this novels, this book is a stand alone. There are brief mentions to storylines in his previous books, but they are not spoilers. Once you give this book a read, you will find yourself ordering the prior six books in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST MICHAEL DIMERCURIO NOVEL, September 21, 2002
This review is from: Terminal Run (Paperback)
TERMINAL RUN is one of the most soulful, well-paced and exciting submarine novels ever written. This book carries on in the tradition of the DiMercurio submarine novel, with all his trademark character development, tense combat situations, intricate technology - that only works half the time! - and surprise ending. This is intense and satisfying, but will leave you longing for more...

Terminal Run was an excellent read. I could not put it down. Mr.DiMercurio was at his usual top form.Cudos! I would have liked to see more people of color as I am one, and less techno mombo jumbo. That beening said this was well worth the seven bucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANother triumph, November 8, 2002
This review is from: Terminal Run (Paperback)
I'm a huge fan of all of the Pacino books. Each one has been a great page turner, and this one was no exception. The way the author has taken each book and expanded upon the last one is one of the things that make this a good series, even though this one would be good without the background of the previous books.

I especially liked the way DiMercurio took a small step back and gave more of a global view of the developing battles, and then dove into depth descriptions. And his use of the technology, as always, was great.

Can't wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars DiMercurio, your the man!, November 7, 2002

As a reader of the complete series of DiMercurio book's, I could not wait to get my hands on a copy and I must say it did not dissapoint. I just could'nt put it down, in fact I read it in just two nights. I have reread it twice since then. I have always longed to be on a nuclear submarine and find Michael's books put you right on the deck. The plot was great and the book flowed nicely. All I have to say is Michael, keep them rolling out!

Terminal RUN is the best of the best. Detailed, intense action. The story reaches out and draws you in and carries you right into combat aboard a sub. I found the hairs on the back of my neck raising as I became involved in the plot. A great read! DIMERCURIO writes with far more excitement than rival Tom
Clancy!

Having read all of the author's previous books I was anxious to get my hands on his latest and I was not disappointed. The characters are more alive and the author has written in a way that I found to flow better. This is his best and it reads at a fast pace. It is a real page turner and kept me up very late. It was a book I didn't want to end, I wanted to savor it like a fine wine. I have never been in the military, much less onboard a submarine, but the author's writing style has always appealed to me and held my attention. If you have not read the author's other books on submarine warfare, do yourself a favor and read them.

DiMercurio delivered another page turner and established Pacino's son as a means of continuing the legacy. If you enjoyed his previous work - you'll certainly enjoy Terminal Run.
