Product Description

After his wife Allison falls sick with a brain tumor, Bryson wakes up in a strange cabin in the desert. Here he finds Allison, vibrant and healthy, and they share one last night before she "wanders off into the desert to die."

In the aftermath of Allison's disappearance, Bryson contemplates the life they've shared and grapples with Allison's final warning, that he should leave the cabin and its virtual promises, before it's too late.

This debut novella by Wiley Davis is lyrical science fiction at its best. The story of Bryson and Allison is both heartwarming, and bone chilling. It speaks to the human in all of us as we struggle to find love, and a place to call home in an always-changing world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terminal Visit, August 2, 2011
This review is from: Terminal Visit (Kindle Edition)
I really enjoyed this sad and haunting tale. Davis has a real talent for writing beautiful descriptions that are a pleasure to read. From the beginning when Allison walks off into the desert to die, there is a wonderful, wistful feeling to the story. This futuristic story is full of loss, not only in the personal loss of Allison, but also in the universal loss of a flesh and clay society as we know it. In Terminal Visit, Davis creates a world that is well worth the price of admission.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Discovery... is that too peppy a review for a sad, sweet story?, January 27, 2012

Disclosure, I came to be aware of Wiley Davis and this story via his Fifty Dollar Follow Focus campaign on Kickstarter. I loved his pitch, and though I didn't need a FDFF I was excited to be able to support him in some way... even if it was about 1/50th the amount of support.

I enjoyed this story quite a lot. It's short (I guess many novellas are?) but sweet, and sad. It was engrossing. I was there with them. Obviously written by someone who's interested in how stuff works yet unwilling to let that interest hijack the tale. It's got a subtle speculative tech twist, and he does a good job of incorporating it into the story as if it's something that everyone is already aware of and living with, reader included.

Final note: I've tried a few other independently published Kindle books, and this is far and away the best edited. Maybe two typos or word substitutions? That's impressive. Such attention to detail prevents the little errors from yanking you out of your immersion.

3.0 out of 5 stars I have never read a book like this before, December 8, 2011
This review is from: Terminal Visit (Kindle Edition)
It is a very interesting book, more like you are a person sitting in the living room of an elderly couple who tell you a bit about how they met and their lives together. Rather disjointed, but aren't most memories that way?

The imagery that Wiley puts to paper is amazing and beautiful, sad in some places.
