4.0 out of 5 stars Battlefield1942/Terminator Style
Terminator 3: War of the Machines is great fun. Everyone saying this game sucks because of it's AI and it's bad single-player are wrong. It is just like Battlefield 1942. Is there a campaign in 1942? No. Just the MP maps and you playing weak AI. Same as in Terminator 3: War of the Machines. Choosing between Tech-Com and Skynet is really cool (Just like in 1942)...

Or, at least, enjoy yourself. Don't get me wrong, the landscapes are incredibly mood setting, if not just a little sparce. The levels are sprawling, almost too much so. Or, at least, enjoy yourself. Don't get me wrong, the landscapes are incredibly mood setting, if not just a little sparce. The levels are sprawling, almost too much so. A nice radar that covers a reasonable area of each map is a nice plus, with arrows representing the 'bad' guys location. There's not really very much voice acting here, mostly just 'grunts' when AHNULD falls from a ledge or something. Also, the box touts single player action. Well, it's a lazy single player game. No scripted sequences that i've seen. Basically, it's just the multi-player maps and you're fighting computer enemies instead of folks from around the world. There haven't been any sequences to link these multiplayer maps together in the 'single-player' mode, either. It just feels like they forgot to put the important touches on this. Nice weaponry that all-to-often ends up killing you because of the sheer power of them. As a multiplayer game, this is a 4 star. Mainly because it plays wonderfully on my dsl connection. I don't know about dial up. Very smooth action. However, the single player deserves more like a 2 star. I think i was looking forward to an immersive first-person expierience before diving into the multi-player aspect. Without the first, the latter just seems a little empty. Also, it's a couple of weeks into release, and i've seen very few people out there playing the multi-player maps. This game is aroung a gig in size, and should be ran on at least a pentium 4 or amd xp 2400 for quality. You really should have 256 mg of ram and a dsl connection too. There is a good supply of maps to keep you busy. Good game, just not great.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is why Terminator spinoffs are few and far between!, May 13, 2006
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Terminator 3: War of the Machines (CD-ROM)
I love terminator, the movies are outstanding! In fact T3 saved my summer of 2003 from being a major sci-fi disappointment with those horrible sequels to the Matrix(which was a good idea butchered)

However I have found almost every single game based on it, except for the old DOS ones that you cant get anymore(SKYnet and other bethesda titles) I have rarely seen a game that does justice to what inspired it....the movies.

In the summer of 03 I heard alot of big hype all over the web about this game and alot of excitement over it. Then in the fall when the demo hit the market the game crashed.

I was one of the first to download the demo, and was entertained by the multiplayer mode, but was later disappointed by the apparent lack of a single player story line.MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT!

I would love to see a title on the PC that does the Terminator series justice..... It could be an outstanding game if someone with the talent would put time and effort into it.

I found the demo to be very glichy and lagged on a brodband connection.

I then decided that I would buy it, but then I noticed the crashing price tag and it being pulled rapidly off the shelves in all major stores. THATS A HINT!

within the first year a $50 game crashed to $14.00. It has also been pulled of the shelves since I can only find it online.

I guess its something I will have to stay away from Im disappointed to say since T3 was great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap merchandising trick, December 29, 2005
This review is from: Terminator 3: War of the Machines (CD-ROM)
I notice that this game has now been reduced to $5; that is probably all its worth. However if you have a copy of Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Half Life Counterstrike or any other game with online team play then you've already got a better game so dont bother!

It all sounded great, marketed off the back of the extemely good Terminator 3 film I was expecting much. The reality was much worse when I found out it was a poor man's Unreal Tournament. Sure there are terminators and humans and there is variety of "domination" style scenarios (capture most of the areas for longest to win). The sniper rifle is most definitely the weapon of choice and can take down a terminator with one head shot - nice. But its so been done, and done better. I did play through all the scenarios and satisfied myself I could do it and then I uninstalled it and put it away for ever :o(.

Being the Terminators frying the Humans is a great way to let of some steam. Or being the Tech-Com Fighters and roasting metal. Either way. And you guys saying War of the Machines AI is weak, just look at 1942. I've seen Americans and Germans two feet away looking right at eachother and they stood there, so i wacked em both. I can get around the AI faults and the 12 SP maps. The question is can you?

The game lacks alot. It even lacks support from Atari, the developer who's main page online is literally a picture. It is suppose to be supported by GameSpy, it is not, there no dedicated servers by Atari or the developer. The game has potential but unless these issues are resoloved, IE:graphic problems, lack of storyline, mulitplayer issues, this game is dead in the water.

2.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Packaging!!, July 10, 2004

This review is from: Terminator 3: War of the Machines (CD-ROM)
There are no single player missions- just some lame maps you choose and fight weak AI robots. The multi player is OK but I was pissed about the fact that the box promises single player missiins and there are none. No clear beginning or end.

Dont waste your money!!

First of all, the detail and feeling of the maps are great. There are a wide variety of scenarios to choose from and the addition of vehicles was a nice touch. This game rocks in multiplayer if you can find anyone online because of the ability to drive and shoot at the same time.
The major drawback of this game is the lack of single player. I didn't pay $30 to play a simple "capture and hold" scenario with enemy bots, and would not have bought the game if I had known that was what i was getting. For as much time as the developers put in to develop the maps and characters, why didnt they take more time and at least link up the maps similar to Quake 3, or at least give some sort of reward for holding the points the longest other than after the 20 minute time limit runs out telling me i had more frags than anyone.
I wouldnt recommend this game if you have a poor internet connection of if you mainly want it for single player. Unless if you have a fast connection or attend a lot of lan parties, save your money for something else.

I like this game as it is the only multiplayer game of any quality that immerses you into the world of skynet/techcom. There are no dedicated servers and joining games is hit or miss. Also the game is very sensitive to synchronization and ping issues. However it is still fun as all get out cause if nothing else you can play the custom maps on singleplayer or create a multiplayer game and play by yourself on it. It works flawlessly on LAN so long as both games are the same verion. Seems that most everyone plays the basic version 1.0 with no patches.

T3WoTM is a very fun game. If you like Battlefield 1942,it has a very similar feel as that game. The graphics is alittle choppy in the inital playing of each game, but seems to smooth out as you play. This may be to the amount of bots spawning, and how smart the AI is set, that may effect cpu processing. Thus 4 stars instead of 5.

You play many roles in the human military base,or you can be several types of terminators including on that can fly.

Terminators move very stiffly, and see a red vision, with losts of numbers in the form of square on the left side of the screen. Just like in the first Terminator movie.Futher more,if you have the highest frags, you can select the actual Arnold Terminator.

Both Terminators and Humans, have several vechicles and stationary weapons to utilize.

The maps are hugh, and finding on-line games is fast, but since this is a new game,I only found 3 or 4 servers. I'am sure as the game becomes more popular, more servers will be available.

Enjoy!!!
