WOW!!! Terminator: Dawn of Fate is on of the best games for the PS2 console. Time: 2027 A.D. Place: Post-nuclear Los Angeles.Robots from missile defence systems get smart and take over the world. Play as one of three characters, including the star of the movie The Terminator. Use weapons like the AR50 machine pistols, SR70 plasma rifle, canister bombs, C4, plasma batons,...

I love the Terminator movies, but I gotta be honest with you,not this game .... Here's why:

1)Obnoxious camera, in conjunction with the terrible movement controls. I OFTEN found myself getting lost/disorientated/stuck.

2)Not enough outdoor levels. Instead, you run around bases, hotels, parking lots, asylums, etc. You end up feeling very claustrophobic by the 3rd...

Fight Endos, plasma frisbees, and the legandary T-800 assasin droid. The game acts as a prequal to the movie, so it helps to have seen it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not Great, November 9, 2002

This review is from: Terminator: Dawn of Fate (Video Game)
I give this game 4 Stars. It is pretty fun but not great. The Camera movements can get confusing and I sometimes get lost and lose control of the Character. I started playing it yesterday and am half way through it so it isn't too hard. I guess I'll have to try the hard levels next after I beat it. I am a fan of the movies and I can't wait for the third one to come out this summer so this game nice to see. I think that fans of Terminator would enjoy this game!!

You end up feeling very claustrophobic by the 3rd level or so.

3)Speaking of which, there are only 10 levels.

4)There are three characters to play as, but it's not like you get to pick one of the three characters before entering the next level. One mission you may be Kyle Reese, the next you might be some gun-toting female.

(5) If there is one enemy that you will learn to hate REAL fast, it's those annoying flying saucers that knock you on your back when they attack. And then you get up, and unless you destroy it "muy pronto" you're going to get knocked down AGAIN.

(6)I've only seen/fought one T-800 in the game. But you have your Pulsed Plasma Rifle in the 40 Watt range, right? Remember how easily the Resistance killed T-800's in the future scene in Terminator 2? No such thing here. You pump umpteen thousand rounds into this T-800 and he finally softens up. Then you pump another umpteen thousand rounds into him only to saw him in half. But that upper half is still alive, so, Plasma Rifle in hand, you pump another umpteen thousand rounds into him. Goodness, you'd think you were shooting a wimpy .22 or something. It was after that battle that I said, "Forget it, this game isn't worth my time."

(7) You don't get to ride around in vehicles. (But Keep in mind that I stopped at level 7 of 10, so I'm not sure about 8,9, or 10, but I doubt it.)

(8) Easy mode is too hard.

(9) No BIG battles, like the one at the start of T2. Instead, you're reduced to "going-it-alone" missions with occasional run-ins with stupid allies.

(10) And worst of all, this game just simply isn't fun. It's frustrating. Believe me, I tried to like it, but it never happened. You can spend your money on something better than this (like the Terminator films on DVD special editions if you don't have them already).

Here are a couple Terminator game alternatives you might want to consider: Skynet, Terminator 2029,(these latter two were made by Bethesda for the PC, if I remember correctly),various Terminator games for the Gameboy, NES, SNES, and Arcade.

The only good parts about this game are the FMV's, but I'd rather watch the movies than this piece of garbage any day.

3.0 out of 5 stars A gritty little shooter that wants to be so much more, September 22, 2002
This review is from: Terminator: Dawn of Fate (Video Game)
Terminator: Dawn of Fate is a straight forward action/shooter with the storyline serving as a prequel to the first Terminator film. During the course of the game's 10 missions, you'll play as three different characters (including Kyle Reese, Michael Biehn's character from the original film), and even though the characters look different, the gameplay stays the same. To move the game along are some nicely rendered CG cinema sequences and in-game cut scenes, plus a comlink to pick up more objectives in the middle of a mission; all of which are nice little additions, but what hurts Terminator: Dawn of Fate are the overly clunky controls and annoying camera. Especially the fact that depending on which way your character is running, shooting, etc., the controls will change up whenever the camera angle does the same; if all of this would have been corrected this game would be a near must own. The game's graphics have moments of brilliance, but are nothing special really, as is the sound effects. All in all, despite it's flaws, Terminator: Dawn of Fate is a must play for fans of the Terminator films, but action gamers may be better suited to look elsewhere.

TDOF (terminator dawn of fate) is the best videogame ever for ps2. TDOF is so much fun, challenging and you get to use lots of hi-tck weapons against the machines. Sure it is nothing like the terminator films but this is still a good game. GET IT

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game, September 30, 2002

This review is from: Terminator: Dawn of Fate (Video Game)
This game is great, The Terminator films are two of my favorite movies and im excited for the third sequal Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines thats supposed to come out Summer 2003. This game is a great prequal to the first one, it goes well with the movies and there are no flaws. We finally get to see Perry, who was mentioned by Reese in the first Terminator film when Reese was in the interrogation room being questioned. The only thing I dont like is the controls. on PS2, its very hard to manage and sometimes it could cost you energy, I'm it's just as hard to control on Xbox too. But other than that..its a great game and I do recommend it, especially to people who are big fans of the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite PS2 games, May 13, 2004
By
This review is from: Terminator: Dawn of Fate (Video Game)
Terminator Dawn of fate is the first game I ever played when I first got my PS2. The moment I played it, I loved. Its so much fun. Sure the controlling is a bit hard, when once you get used to it, you'll have a great time playing the game. I do not know why this game has received many bad reviews; after all it's way better then the more recent Terminator 3- rise of the machines game. That game is just too hard, the controls are very complicated, it isn't very intense, and the back round music is horrible. In this one, the controls are simpler; you don't have to be in first person mode so you can see yourself. I find that to be better b/c when you're not in first person mode, you can run and roll on the ground to avoid being hit. When making a combination of running, rolling, and shooting with all the futuristic hi-tech weapons, the game becomes pretty intense. Also I love the rock music starts playing in the back round when you start to battle machines. And another great part of this game is the story line- the story of the game is basically going through all the events that led up to the original Terminator movie (1984). This game creates a back round story behind the terminator movies. All that was said from the terminator movies such as machines sending a terminator back through time, the war against the machines, terminator factories are things you finally get to see when you play this game. Plus this game also has even more things that were never shown or said in the terminator films such as their being a traitor, who sold out the humans, or that the humans knew of skynets plan to send a terminator back thru time, or the never before seen assassin machines that are only featured in this game and not in the movie. Although this game is good, it does have some cons-
- There are only 10 levels so it's a pretty short game.
- This game isn't fully accurate with the terminator films. In the original terminator movie, the character Kyle Reese said he had volunteered to go back through time to stop the terminator from killing Sarah Conner. According to this game, John Conner personally chose him to go through time and only told him about the mission shortly before he was sent through time.
- Some of the characters look nothing like how they did movies. Kyle Reese looks nothing like how he did in the original Terminator and this game also shows the Terminator who was supposed to be "Ah-nuld" going back through. That terminator looked absolutely nothing like Arnold, the makers deliberately made it look completely different. I do not know why they did that either, it could have been a way for "Ah-nuld" to have a cameo in the game.
- The camera angles for this game change almost every ten seconds as you move.
- Remember in the first movie, when the terminator kept going after Sarah even though it lost its surrounding human tissue, its arm, both of it legs? There is only one level where you keep fighting a terminator in the same situation. There should have been more times in the game where you keep battling a terminator like that b/c once just was not enough and it was pretty fun.
Other then that, this game is pretty awesome and I suggest you get whenever you have the chance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, December 1, 2008

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Terminator: Dawn of Fate (Video Game)
It's a lot of fun to destroy Terminators and battle through the various levels. It also tells the events leading up to the first Terminator movie. I'd give it 5 stars, except if you quit during a level, you must repeat the whole level, rather than starting from the checkpoints. Also, the camera angles can sometimes be tricky, especially when first entering a new room.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Terminator: Dawn of Fate, March 17, 2008

This review is from: Terminator: Dawn of Fate (Video Game)
This game is great, besides the not-so-good Camera Angles the gameplay and storyline makes this game worth it, lots of Stuff to unlock, and cool cut-scences. Very Underrated game. Any Terminator fan should get this.
