5.0 out of 5 stars Not Like His Old Stuff - But Every Track is Good
Any artist who has been around for over two decades and is now a little older, but is looking to make a new record that sounds current in 2011 should talk to Stevie B. He has abandoned much of the freestyle music that made him famous in the early 1990's, and has now released an album filled with electronic, autotuned pop/r&b. 3.0 out of 5 stars This is not Freestyle, but it's OK
This certainly not traditional freestyle in the same vein and his earlier work in the 80s and 90s. It's not bad, and has some good beats, just don't expect "freestyle" as most people over the age of 30 remember it. It's more like what's out there today in the pop-rap-hip hop crossover realm.

As with any artist making a change in style, the change is only successful if the songs are good. Stevie B has always had a knack for writing catchy songs, but he takes that to a new level here. THe current electro-dance pop that is being played today is the perfect fit for Stevie B, apparently, because he does not sound out of place in 2011, and the hooks have remained, perhaps even become stronger.

Like a fine wine, Stevie B gets better with age. Sure, it is hard to witness any artist conforming to trends that he himself established years ago with his previous work - but make no mistake - these grooves are tight. And just when you think he has lost his smooth touch for ballads, he drops a tremendous heartfelt ballad at the very end of the album that ranks with his all-time best songs. "The Terminator" does not sound like a desperate artist trying to recapture his fame and glory. Stevie B just sounds like he is having a good time, and at times he takes a back seat to the music and the grooves, which is a nice break from all the self-promotion and name-dropping in today's music. This album was not designed to produce one hit, or catchy ringtones. This is a complete work; one that can be listened to repeatedly without losing its catchiness. What a statement from an artist who many had forgotten, and many more had thought to be way past his prime. Good for him.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings..., August 11, 2009

Theres a cd store in my neighborhood that sells new and used cd's. being that cd stores are a dying breed, this one os very popular. Anyway, they have a new release board in there and when I saw "Stevie B" up there i was floored. Not because he had a new album coming out, but because this store was advertising it and carrying it. I took that as a good sign...I guess freestyle isn't dead.....

Anyway, about this cd...I have mixed feelings about it. At first listen, I was so excited, I loved it. But after a few listens and after the excitement fades, you hear it for what it really is. There are a handful of great songs here - "Different Kind of Love", "Spring Love,", "Somebody", "It aint Over", and the beautiful, "Running For Miles"...BUT there are a few songs here that make me cringe. They are pure cheese and I gotta be honest, I felt kind of embarrassed that they were Stevie B songs.

I see what we are trying to do here...update the latin freestyle sound. And it works on songs such as "It aint Over" but it doesn't work everywhere. There are way too much vocoders used on this album.

Listening to this album makes you realize just how much the latin freestyle records, of the 80's especially, influenced todays artists. You can hear it in many hip hop songs, and all over top 40.

If I were Stevie B, I would release "Spring Love 09" as a single ASAP. Pitbull is hot right now and I would capitalize on that to bring some light onto this cd. It really isn't bad. It's just not great

1.0 out of 5 stars The most GAWD-AWEFULL album yet!, July 18, 2009
This review is from: Terminator (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Stevie B for many years, but these absurdly awefull "Cher-bot" electro-vocals that have become mainstream in todays dance is completely annoying!

After running through all the track samples, the only thing Stevie has seemed to "Terminate" is himself.

Maybe the next one will be better (that's if anyone still cares to listen).

5.0 out of 5 stars Stevie B "The Terminator" is the Best Freestyle Album Yet!!, July 23, 2009

Stevie B is back in 2009 with his latest and brand new album "The Terminator" which was originally released on April 30, 2009 and I must say that "The Terminator" is definitely off the hook and the best Freestyle album that I have heard in a long time!! Stevie B and Brazilian Producer Map Style prove that there is a competitive market for Freestyle music and "The Terminator" has everything that you will love and so much more: Freestyle, Dance, Club, Hip-Hop, Ballad, and even includes the smash hit "Different Kind of Love". "The Terminator" is a must have album for all Freestyle fans and even new fans who will come to appreciate the music of Stevie B!!
