After the death of their baby boy eighteen months ago, Jolie Conrad left Dace Recker behind and went to the LAPD. Now Jolie is back in Metro City. Unfortunately her new partner on the Hostage Negotiation Team "HNT" is Dace. Jolie agrees with Dace that she should be the one to request a transfer, but first they must deal with the situation in front of them. A bank robber calling himself "John" has hostages and is making demands. (Skipping forward so no spoilers are given.)

Someone is after all the members of the HNT and SWAT teams that dealt with that robbery. Ultimately Jolie and Dace agree to act as bait in the hope of drawing out the killer. Jolie not only has to deal with special agents and Dace, but also look after Trixie, the woman who had given birth and abandoned her. Though there is no way Jolie would ever care for the cruel woman, Jolie has her reasons for looking after her.

***** As all good books do, this one opens up in the midst of a dangerous situation and grabs the reader's attention instantly. I, as the reader, found myself holding my breath as the bank robbery scene unfolded before me. When the two main characters, Jolie and Dace, meet eye-to-eye for the first time, I could actually feel the tension in the air. This is the first of a series involving the Alpha Squad. (It may be a trilogy, but I am hoping for a longer series. This set up is just too ripe for only three books.) This book is a story in itself, so there is no fear of any cliff hangers. The secondary team members, especially the sharp shooter, are almost as intriguing as the main couple. I have high expectations for the next installment. Insanely addictive! *****

Kylie Brant is one of the queens of romantic suspense. Her believable, engaging characters and interesting plots are always a nice surprise.

Terms of Surrender has been winning awards left, right and centre, and it's not hard to see why.

A wonderful story of reconciliation after heartbreak, with two very likeable leads, this is a story I've found myself reading more than once. How can a relationship based on secrets survive the death of a child? Neither of our leads thought it could, but the way they find their way back to each other will have you desperate to get through this story in one sitting!

Once you've read this one, track down the rest of Brant's stories. I have not once been disappointed!
