This review is from: Tern (1982) (Audio CD)
A really nice live session that was originally offered as a two lp set on the saj label(Sven Ake Johannson)-from the good people at free music productions in Germany. Tippett, Moholo, and Stabbins are captured in fine form at Berlin's 1982 Total Music Meeting.
Tippett's piano playing rumbles through much dark and dense territory. The intensity rises and falls, Stabbins punctuating the mood with fine warbling trills. His soprano skitters and dances above. His tenor, jocular and fleet, gushing slurred notes below. Moholo, the South African drummer, sounding like rolling thunder throughout. It was a potent combination.
Atavistic has done a great job of returning some of the earlier fmp catalogue back to the marketplace. Thankfully, Tern is among them.
