1.0 out of 5 stars Skip it!
If you enjoyed the original Buckinghams with Dennis Tufano on lead vocals don't expect anything close to that with this conglomeration. The group sound has been converted into a Holiday Inn lounge act and the remake of "Kind of A Drag" is mediocre at best.

I can't believe all the glowing reviews that have been posted here. Either I have no taste for 60s pop or the reviewers are all related to the group members.

Where have these guys been all these years! This is no rehash of their former music, this is totally new recordings and I can't stop playing it.Their songs NO TURNING BACK and I THINK ABOUT YOU are very reflective. The songs SAY IT AIN'T LOVE and NOTHING LEFT TO CLING TO are very strong and had me humming them all day.The song 99.9 conjures up the feeling your in a movie and you get lost in it. The title cut TERRA FIRMA and NEXT BEND IN THE RIVER are captivating. Every song on this CD is strong. A definite keeper.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing; not of the Buckinghams' tradition, August 8, 1999

Terra Firma lacks the tight harmonies and the steady beat that the Buckingham were known for with their distinctive "Chicago sound." The lead vocals of Carl Giammarese sounds like a Vegas lounge act. Missing is the rich vocal lead of Dennis Tufano. If you want great Buckinghams, try their "Portraits" album- an excellent and progressive William Guercio production, showcasing many of the group's true talents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definatly "NO TURNING BACK", November 5, 1998

When I got my copy of The Buckinghams newly released TERRA FIRMA CD, I couldn't wait to get my hands on a CD player to hear it. What a journey for your ears, harmonies abound everywhere on this recording and a little something for everyone, from young to old. On the first cut NO TURNING BACK says it all on where this band wants to go. An excellent a capella version of their #1 hit KIND OF A DRAG brings you back to the 60's with a 90's twist. 99.9 is a sexy sensual song with an acoustic guitar solo and lyrics sung in spanish. The title song TERRA FIRMA has a great mix of keyboards & lyrics. JEAN JACKET AND LACE is a fun "get up and dance" number. The remake of the Billy Joe Royal hit I KNEW YOU WHEN will keep you captivated by the strong voice of lead singer Carl Giammarese. And finally the reflective song NEXT BEND IN THE RIVER superbly wrtten by Bruce Soboroff will keep you entranced and wanting more. This could only be the beginning of more great music to come from THE BUCKINGHAMS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new music from a wonderfully talented group of men., August 11, 1999

TERRA FIRMA is a great new CD by a band that has been around for a long time. I always loved their old songs, and now I love their new music. The Next Bend In The River is my favorite song on the CD, (way to go Bruce!)but all the songs are strong and captivating in their own right. These guys have worked a long time for this to happen to them again, and they deserve all the good things that this CD will bring them. Congratulations on a super new CD, and much success is certainly due all of you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The older you get the better you get., January 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Terra Firma (Audio CD)
I have heard Terra Firma and love it. Just Love It. My favorite song is Next Bend in the River. It is the story of life. My life. When I wake in the morning I have no idea as I travel along the river where the next bend is. But I always know I will survive that bend and all the rest to come. It is my new motto. Life takes on many bends, but you just have to go with the flow of the river. 99.9 needs to be the theme song for Michael Jordan. Since he is 99.9% sure he is retired. Song writing is a musical talent that I did not know you guys had. I would give up the day job and stick with a music career, I believe you will make it in the tough music business. Hoping your new CD is a breakthrough success for this day and age, your 60's music lives on forever. Still lives in this day.
