4.0 out of 5 stars Spicy
You can hear TMV throughout, but Juliette's voice is great on this. Definitely give it a listen and give her a chance. I'd like to see her live!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I have the three previous cd's by Juliette (and the Licks) and was very much looking forward to this new album. Unfortunately Juliette seems to me to have become involved with the wrong kind of musicians /producers who did nothing for her voice and music. Unfortunately Juliette seems to me to have become involved with the wrong kind of musicians /producers who did nothing for her voice and music. Her otherwise powerful and warm voice sounds muffled and muted, and the songs seem uninspired and boring. Gone are the raw enthousiasm and energy which were present with the Licks.
I can listen to her for hours, but I will play one of the previous cd's to do so. I will stay a fan though, and will go to her concert in november in Amsterdam. So Juliette, if you read this: drop the new producer and start making music again!

5.0 out of 5 stars HOTTTTT!!!!!, September 23, 2009
This review is from: Terra Incognita (MP3 Download)
I have loved Juliette Lewis forever! She is just so artistic, rock, punk, electric.... I loved her in Natural Born Killers. I idolized her for that role. She is so cool and she represents women in such a raw way. I love this cd. If you are into grrrl music or are a fan of hers, it is a must have. When I hear the songs, it reminds me of so many situations from growing up. It reminds me of that nostalgic time in your teenage years when you are growing, learning, experimenting and having the time of your life. It also takes me to my current time in life by the beautiful expressions of words and the passion that flows from her soul as she performs. This cd is a gift that I will forever cherish. Thanks, Juliette. : )

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprised and entertained!, September 18, 2009

Juliette Lewis has surrounded herself with some A-grade musicians for this solo album and the result is a very interesting and entertaining musical experience. I am a fairly new fan but I find her vocals are so raw and powerful and brimming with emotions that sound great in this rock context. The band is on fire and grooving with intensity on songs like "Noche Sin Fin" and the album highlight "Terra Incognita". The bluesy "Hard Lovin' Woman" showcases some superb live-sounding vocals by Lewis. Omar Rodriguez Lopez shines on guitar and his production is beautiful. Lots of layering and great guitar effects give the music that mystical sound he's known for and Thomas Pridgen on drums is awesome - definitely one of the most intense drummers on the scene. This album is a surpisingly satisfying release for 2009 and highly recommended.

It took me a while to digest the album... A little heavier than my taste in music but a must have if you love Juliette Lewis. I found the lyrics very interesting. A great road trip album. Hard Loving Woman is incredibly good...

Not a bad listen. Omar's always GOLD. Not very MarsVolta-ish so if that's what ur looking for stop here. Lil' trippy here and there and that radio release (sumthin' bout a bar???) is terribly repetitive. 3 and a half stars is more accurate.

I've bought about 30 albums in 2009. I've listened to this album more than any of them and it is my pick for the most interesting and enjoyable rock album of the year. Now, this being said, and having been completely unaware of her previous work with The Licks before two months ago, I was prepared to dismiss the idea of Juliette Lewis as a rock singer. I had not heard of her work at all until saw her this past summer opening for the Pretenders. What an amazing show!! Since then I've seen her twice and gotten her two previous albums and her EP. So, I'm biased. I'm a fan. Terra Incogita was literally "unknow territory" for me... and the less traveled road I've recently begun to travel with Ms. Lewis has made a hell of a lot of difference. Get it.

Songs that really stand out? "Noche Sin Fin", "Terra Incognita", "Hard Lovin' Woman", "All is For God", "Romeo","Ghosts" , and the dear, dear "Suicide Dive Bombers".

The music sticks with you which is what I consider a sign for liking a CD. I like her Juke Box release more though.

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, October 17, 2009

I was disappointed in this CD. There are only 2 songs that I think are good. Fantacy Bar and the title song. The rest were just plain weird or she tried to hard to sound like Janis Joplin. SHes a great show woman and actor though.
