5.0 out of 5 stars Please listen to this beautiful, soulful CD
If you are a fan of music that expresses the deepest and most profound emotions with the most beautiful melody and musicianship, do not hesitate to purchase this CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars For USAmericans only
That's the reason of my review and rating. It's exclusively for USAmericans and Amazon tells you so when you've already bought the thing and try to download it. Instead of doing it the right way which is not to show it to people to whom it's forbidden. Good way to make disgruntled customer. Kudos Bezos, keep up the good work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Please listen to this beautiful, soulful CD, November 10, 2008
If you are a fan of music that expresses the deepest and most profound emotions with the most beautiful melody and musicianship, do not hesitate to purchase this CD.

I first encountered this CD after attending at a conference in beautiful Lisbon, Portugal. In a mountain town, not far from the capital, a local music store was playing this CD on its outside speakers. My spouse was hitting the shops, and as a result, I found myself waiting patiently in the lane... the beautiful sounds of this CD enfolding me. I heard the whole CD two or three times -- I am a patient person, and very much in love, after all these 30 years -- but I noticed something. When the second track was played -- Minh' Alma -- tears would begin to flow. And yes, I started to listen. Later, the melodies running through my mind, despite our having journeyed on, I said, "We must have this CD." We went back and bought it.

This is a work of astonishing passion, poetry, and eloquence. Please listen to Minh' Alma, and you'll see what I mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing Mariza!, April 16, 2009
By
This review is from: Terra (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after the Mariza concert I attended last night. I have never been so mesmerized by a performer before. From the moment she stepped onstage with the almost regal way she moved, to her obvious humility when she spoke to the audience, I was hypnotized. She only sang one song in English last night (Roy Orbison's "Crying"), but it didn't matter with her lovely voice, deeply emotional delivery, and the outstanding musicians who accompanied her. I've also never been to a concert where the lighting played such an integral part in creating a mood for the audience. This new CD, "Terra" is amazing, and if you have a chance to see Mariza in concert, for heaven's sake don't hesitate!

5.0 out of 5 stars MARIZA'S NEW ALBUM "TERRA" (EARTH) SPEAKS TO ALL CULTURES, April 10, 2009
By
This review is from: Terra (Audio CD)
Mariza's incredible range and ability to evoke powerful and soft emotions is exquisitely breathtaking. Her two world-renowned guitarrists on the Portuguese 12 string guitar and acoustic guitar complement her excellence with their own. Regardless of the language you speak, she has the ability to move the listener to laughter and tears in each song. This disk reveals the reason for her universal appeal in every region of the United States and on every continent where she has sung. She is not only an icon of music in her homeland Portugal, but a treasured universal musical diva across cultures. Mariza's is a voice for the ages!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mariza captures the heart yet again, May 25, 2009

I have been a serious fan since I first heard Mariza a few years ago. I was able to attend her concert in Nashville, TN this year and did not think that a city famous for country & western music would take to Fado, but Mariza had the entire audience eating out of her hand! I got this CD there (which Mariza graciously signed) and have not stopped listening to it for the last 3 months. There is variety; traditional Fado, a Cape Verde piece, jazzy modern pieces, even a song in English (best version of "Smile" I ever heard!). My favorite is probably the touching & nostalgic song about growing up & falling in love with Fado music, "Tasco da Mouraria". Mariza is an amazing artist, and she just seems to get better & better.

I've seen Mariza in concert on the 8th of April, 2009 in Madison, WI. She is an excellent singer and has great stage presence as well a superb connection while singing or conversing with the audience. This CD has many of the songs she did in the concert and therefore brings good memories to me. I have three of her previous CD's and two of her DVD concert performances. All of them are excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music, April 11, 2009

I got this CD right before going to her concert so it was nice hearing some of the cuts live. Her music will bring tears to your eyes. I don't speak Portuguese so don't understand the words, but her voice and the back-up music is so beautiful. The final English cut of Smile was a pleasant surprise. Mariza is a great singer with a strikingly beautiful voice.

Marizas voice sounds great, but there are a few songs that I liked and some that I didn't, but everyone is different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mariza - she will make you laugh and cry, January 2, 2011
This review is from: Terra (Audio CD)
Mariza wows us again with her hauntingly beautiful voice and unique take on the Portual's cultural, musical treasure: Fado.

Mariza branches out with a few duets, a song in Spanish, and a charming song in English. BRAVO, Mariza.

I must admit, I bought this CD after a recent visit to Lisbon, where Mariza's music was playing in a souvenir shop at the fortress (I know, what a sucker). But hey, no regrets. This CD puts me right back in Lisbon, walking the streets of the Alfama district on a balmy summer night. Her voice is mesmerizing, and like others, the language barrier does nothing to sully your enjoyment of her music. Plus, a lyric sheet is included, so you can practice your Portuguese right along with the songs. From a fado amateur, this is a great CD.
