Customer Reviews

They are very bright and easy to install.

So far I have only had to charge the stinger 3 times, the battery lasts that much longer.

I recommend this upgrade to anyone with the old stinger style bulbs.

I bought this to replace my halogen bulb which seems dim in comparison. However, the quality of this product is terrible. In the course of my duties I use my Stinger everyday and unfortunately this product is not rugged enough to handle heavy duty use. The + and - prongs were the first things to fail as they just simply came undone from the rest of the circuit board and then the clear glass dome which houses the LED was next. The end result was total failure. I attempted to contact the vendor and TeraLUX in an attempt to get it repaired or replaced but I got the runaround from both. I paid about 50 dollars including shipping for this product. I should have just spent another 30 dollars and bought the new streamlite LED. Good concept terrible quality.

UPDATE: The ST/XT Stinger upgrade has been redesigned. The focal dome separation and poor focus issues have been resolved. I received the warranty replacement about two months ago. It works awesome. It is bright, clearly focused and has good battery life. The bulbs have a lifetime guarantee they won't burn out and are covered by a 1 year manufacturer's warranty for defects. I don't think my original bulb had a manufacturer's defect, I feel the design was defective.

The representative at TerraLUX was pleasant and helpful. No hassle at all. I would recommend calling the company directly instead of trying to address the issue with the supplying vendor.

Here is my original review:

Everything described by A. Prado happened to me too. The focus on the included lens was never quite perfect. The beam was poorly focused when tightened all the way; Causing me to leave it a bit loose to allow for adjusting. For the one week it worked, it was great. First to go were the soldered circuit board prongs... a quick and easy fix for anyone with a soldering iron. Just one day after I did the self repair, the glass dome over the LED came off... So, I put the old bulb back in and am happy with my yellow tinted, not as bright but operational flashlight. Just $50 poorer...

I also purchased the TerraLUX TLE-300 for the Magcharger at the same time. That thing is FREAKING AWESOME! Seems like a quick lens change and it would burn holes on the moon! lol! That bulb is built how this one should have been.

Got the product first day everything was good untill I unscewed the led up grad kit, to show my friend when the led upgrade kit, when magnifier just fell apart. This product way over priced for the quality I'm very unsatisfied with my purchase. I "do not" recommend this product at all.

I purchased this to repair my standard stinger after the bulbs went out, it was the same price as buying replacement bulbs at the time, but it had a lifetime guarantee and so I was like, sweet.

I popped it in, and it worked right off the bat. It lasted forever on a charge, it was brilliant light. Possibly brighter than my nephews stinger LED DS and much more reliable as his DS model always had problems with the switches.

Until it died. This took about a month, one day it just wouldnt turn on, I disassembled all the parts I could of the light, I checked voltages, cleaned contacts, ETC. Near as I can tell, the bulb just took a dump. I never dropped it or anything.

Not to be dismayed I wrote the warranty email at terralux. I explained my situation. I got no response.

Perhaps I will try again soon to obtain a replacement. I was going to just buy another kit today, but the price seems to have increased significantly since I bought mine a couple years ago.

I LOVED my stinger, I LOVED the terraLux adapter. Until it died. Now my stinger sits uselessly on a table. The batteries may be shot from deep discharge by now. but even if they have a hint of working the life would be fantastic if only the conversion kit worked still.

I hope terraLUX can redeem itself. It was the best flashlight I had owned until the kit went dead.

Edit:
I forgot to change this, I re wrote the email to terraLUX and they sent me a replacement and apologized for the inconvenience, despite the fact that the day I wrote the email was out of warranty. The kit only has a 1 year warranty I thought it was lifetime, but that is only their flashlights.

the new kit seems more robust and has been working fine since I got the part over a year ago.

When I saw the Terralux upgrade for Stingers, I remembered I had an old generation 1 stinger wasting away in the kitchen junk drawer. After reading some of the reviews, I decided to give it a try. The performance claims are right on the money and the installation was a breeze. My old Streamlight has been resurrected and has found its way back to my duty belt as my back up light. I replaced the old light with one of the new subcompact LED lights that are so common now but found that I did not care for the small size but liked the bright white light of LED. I like the feel of a heavy flashlight.......
When I took the upgrade to work, my fellow officers and I compared the up-grade to current models and the brightness is consistent with many of the models on the market now. The only down side, you can't get the strobe feature with the up-grade. No big deal, I have yet to see the application of a strobe actually be used on the street.
I would definitely recommend this product to someone who has not yet made the transition to LED for police work. Since the stinger upgrade has worked so well, I will be ordering the upgrades for the two SL20's I have. Hope this helps.

Update: It has been several months since I installed the Terralux kit to my Gen 1 Stinger. So far, the light has operated flawlessly. I have to make myself carry my department issued Streamlight for officer safety reasons but the light does not compair to my little stinger. So far I have only had to charge the stinger 3 times, the battery lasts that much longer. The Terralux has survived banging on doors in the middle of the night, one passenger window break and several drops to the concrete. If you have an old stinger or SL model and want LED, this is defenitely the way to go.
