Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Terraillon Book 11-Pound Digital Kitchen Scale, Aluminum (Kitchen)
I purchased the "Terraillon Book 11-Pound Digital Kitchen Scale, Aluminum" from Amazon.com at the beginning of September in 2009. My wife and I had been using it about a month, multiple times a day, for helping to count calories and it could not have been more perfect, it was exactly what we wanted for a kitchen scale. It was great that it also could be stored with our cookbooks. A month or so in, it started to display the tare hypens, like it couldn't ever settle on a single weight even though there wasn't anything moving and it was just sitting on the counter. Sometimes we would wait a few minutes and it would zero, but most of the time it never got to displaying zero. Occasionally it'd work for an item or two but then it would no longer function. We swapped out the batteries but that didn't seem to have fixed anything. Also, the batteries are the tiny button sized ones, so not easy to swap and expensive. We had purchased Terraillon given everything we'd read of the products' quality and were disappointed to see it start to fail so quickly. We were not sure if this was an isolated event as we definitely loved the product prior to the problems, so we gave it a second chance and contacted Terraillon's customer service.
Their customer service replied and first suggested we use it in a different part of the home (suggesting the Microwave could interfere), which didn't help. They shipped a replacement immediately, which was great, but the replacement wouldn't even turn on and we couldn't get it to work. We shipped that one back to Terraillon (they shipped a label to us) and they determined that it was in fact broken, so they shipped a new one again. I then asked if the problem was common, and they told me it was rare and the new scale was verified. We used that one for awhile, and it seemed ok, but didn't last more than a few months before it died. From then on, it doesn't seem to turn on for very long, sometimes it will last a while or just die. Replacing the batteries did nothing. Having tried 3 different scales, even though their customer service was responsive (albeit slowly) we just gave up, I didn't contact them again. It cost a premium (~60$ I think) and the quality just wasn't there, so we are unlikely to purchase products from them in the future. I hope they fixed the issues with these scales, but I decided to post this because I'm looking for a new scale.
