These are the perfect extra layer under dress pants in cold winter.

The silk is a very thin layer and surprisingly warm for its weight.

I live in Minnesota. I own two tops and two bottoms. I wear the bottoms every day during the winter months. They are NOT for standing on a lake ice fishing. They do work great for the short periods of time a person is out and about in the winter like when going to work or the store. What I notice is you don't feel the wind on your bare skin as it blows up your pant legs. They breath very well so they also work great when doing outdoor activities like shoveling the drive way or golf on the cool fall days. They're thin enough that you don't really know you have them on when indoors. I never feel hot or sweaty while wearing these in the house or at work. I've had one pair of bottoms for 5 years. They still haven't worn out. Great product if you use it for what it was intended.

Edit 12/12/11: I recently purchased this product thinking it was the same as the ones I've owned for several years. They are not the same thing. My original review was for the Terramar Body Sensors Elite Micro-Silk pant Model W6173. Those were 100% polyester, probably twice as thick and as I just found out, way more durable. I've had the Thermasilk pants for about two months now and they are already showing wear. Snags and runs just like women's nylons. I would give these 3 stars. They are very comfortable but not very durable. Terramar no longer makes the Micro-Silk tops and bottoms. What a mistake on their part. It was a far superior product.

I'm no expert on long underwear, but I can say I've had these for about a year and they have held up fine so far. They making a huge difference when walking around campus in the winter. Plus they are thin so I can wear them under my usual jeans. I like them.

These are a great addition to your underwear wardrobe if you wear suits or business clothing. Yes they are thin and appear to be like a mix of pantyhose and leotards for men, but they do a great job helping you retain body heat in dress clothing without adding alot of bulk and knotting in the process. By just adding a second layer the air that pockets between the fabric builds a good field of insulation and keeps you warmer. If you remove your trousers you can feel the air through these, this shows how they breathe and prevent you from sweating when you are inside or doing something active. I am 69 years old and of small statue, cold weather affects me more than some folks and these Thermasilks have certainly helped me be alot more active this winter than usual. I love my new underwear they do a good job, not to mention how great they feel, smooth and silky, a treat that most men don't get to experience unless they are rubbing a female frame. They seem to run a bit large (at lest for me) so check the sizeing chart carefully before you make your purchase. Hope you enjoy yours as much as me and my lady friends do.

I bought this garment specifically to wear on the 4 day hike of the Inca Trail up to Machu Pichu in Peru. I could not have been any happier with my purchase.
At it's highest point before reaching Machu Pichu, the trail reaches over 4,000 meters (13,828 feet) and it gets quite cold, especially for a hot room yoga teacher like me. I barely noticed the pants, them being super soft and very breathable, but was completely aware of how insulated and wardm I felt. Whether walking or standing still, I was never too hot as the pant breathes very well and never made me sweat only to cool and cause me to feel damp or cold.
I highly recommend this item if you plan on any activity where cold weather may be a factor, especially if the amount you pack and take along is a factor in your overall weight, or even just for a day on the slopes skiing.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I.

I bought a pair of these pants as a base layer to help keep warm. Under a pair of blue jeans, I was surprised that they didn't block the wind well at all. I would come inside from a walk and realize after taking them off that my thighs were freezing! After using them for about a week, I realized that the crotch was torn completely and getting worse. I wasn't doing gymnastics outside, just typical work like walking around and bending over! As far as I knew I was wearing the correct size as they felt comfortable but as tight as you would expect long underwear to be. These are not cheap (dollar wise) and I won't be risking my money on them again.

These Thermasilk, are very light and very confortable. But I guess for the same reason they are very light they are NOT very warm. So even if they fit well, they don't really do what they have to do. They do warm you up a little, but definately no made for very cold weather.

These are very thin, like a pair of womens panty hose, however, 90% not see thru. They do have a functional fly.

I thought they'd be a little thicker. the mens XL weighs 3.7 oz (for those of you who want to use for backpacking).

They are comfortable but I will use in my sleeping bag.

These also snag easily like panty hose, so a tip to keep the run from getting worse: use clear nail polish where the run is going to continue, this stops it.

Total waste of money. Bought two pair (one black and one white) for son to wear under his wool uniform.3 weeks into wool uniform season they have split out in crotch and are pretty much useless. Fabric is too thin for everyday wear under a scratchy wool uniform.
