Product Description

The ultimate way to season. What are Diamond Crystals of Rose Salt? They are fossilized crystals of sea salt, formed more than 26 million years ago and unpolluted. Where Do They Come From? They are carefully extracted by hand from the Khewra mines deep in the heart of the Himalayas in the Pakistani region of Kashmir. And What is Their Background? In about 35 BC Alexander the Great had this precious salt brought to Europe. Subsequently it was used exclusively by church dignitaries and emperors. Put these crystals in the middle of your table setting. Your guests will be able to grate them to their own taste, and you will win points for originality!

2.0 out of 5 stars use the shaker instead, October 13, 2007
This review is from: Terre Exotique Diamand Salt Stones with Grater (Pakistan/Kashmir), 9.5 oz (Grocery)
a cool idea for someone who likes to try new things in the kitchen. Bought this item for a gift. The grater came with rust on it, and the packaging was all scratched up so you couldn't even read the description of the salt. Amazon sent me another one and the 2nd package was just as bad as the first. Needless to say, I repackage the salt and had to buy a new grater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saltiness guaranteed!, October 26, 2008
This review is from: Terre Exotique Diamand Salt Stones with Grater (Pakistan/Kashmir), 9.5 oz (Grocery)
Wow, there are some people with ridiculous expectations on here. I have my salt stashed away in the original (scratched) container in my cupboard where I hardly ever see it, let alone anyone else, to care enough about the condition. The grater is METAL... it's in a container with SALT... mix it in with a LITTLE bit of HUMIDITY and what results is mother natures natural form of recycling itself... RUST... no matter if your grater comes rust free (must of been a dry day at the packing facility) or with it, if your home is completely humidity free (and I don't envy your skin if it is) you are bound to get some rust on there. I live in the tropics... humidity is a constant so I simply wash the rust away as soon as it starts to creep in. I even have to keep the salt stored in a cloth (because I had never seen salt pull moisture form the air like that).

All in all, I love this product. I think it seasons more effectively than regular table salt with its larger grains and tastes cleaner too. I don't know why some people say you have to scrape it longer to get more salt... unless you like really salty stuff, the grain is VERY fine and covers your food evenly. I only advise... don't scrape underneath the ceiling fan! You will notice a thin white film covering your dark table almost instantly!

It's a great conversation starter. I paired it with some marble dishes I got from IKEA exactly for this purpose (similar to http://www.amazon.com/RSVP-Black-Marble-Herb-Salt/dp/B000PSSVOY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1225033301&sr=1-7) and people love it! It's great being able to tell people how old their food is! haha

Beautiful and easy to use! The grater stays sharp after many uses and guests always ask about it. I wish it came with a dish to put the salts in. It would make a great gift if it came with a decorative dish.
