4.0 out of 5 stars deadly explorations, July 22, 2000

This review is from: Terre Haute (Paperback)
Jared McCaverty is the main character of this book. He lives in wealth, his father is a dentist, his grades are good. He has everything to be happy, and yet there is something eating him. Jared fancies boys. He has had a few encounters, always discovered by his father who, in response, used to whip his son.

In the book, Jared meets Julian Clay, the new curator of the local museum. Clay is impressed with Jared, his intellect...and his looks. On a trip to purchase a new piece for the exhibition, they eventually will have sex. Jared will learn to use this experience as a very powerful weapon. In the end, it is even suggested that Julian Clay, who committed suicide, did so because Jared threatened to expose him as a rapist.

All in all a very interesting book on the puberty of a young boy living in Indiana (hence the title). Recommended.
