Book Description

The second book in the Terrestria Chronicles young adult allegory series. Travel back in time to the kingdom of Terrestria, a land where knights and their ladies live in castles and where dragons still roam (occasionally). The Terrestria Chronicles allegory series was written with a three-fold purpose: to honor Jesus Christ as King, to challenge young readers to love and serve Him, and to teach them to guard their hearts for Him. The focus of the series is always on the King. This is not Narnia; this is not Lord of the Rings. The Terrestria Chronicles were written to honor Christ and be as true to Scripture as possible. Some readers have compared the Terrestria books to The Pilgrim's Progress, though this series is much more readable, relevant, and action-packed than Bunyan's classic work. Written for ages ten and up, the Terrestria series is ideal for family devotions, classroom use, or individual enjoyment. When King Emmanuel sends Prince Josiah on a difficult journey to various castles across the kingdom, the young prince is unprepared for the dangers that he will face. But if he can reach all seven castles he will obtain seven priceless jewels for his Shield of Faith! Alive with fast-paced adventure in a medieval setting, Book 2 of the delightful Terrestria allegory series challenges the reader to examine his/her relationship with the King.

Editorial Reviews

Review

I was very excited to have a chance to read and review this series of Christian allegory fiction. I am always looking to share with my kids some good books that explain, on their level, the story of what it means to be a Christian and what Jesus did for us by dying on the cross. I have found that in The Terrestria Chronicles! When these books arrived at my home, my 13-year old daughter grabbed them and headed to her room to read them. She s a fast reader and emerged a few days later telling me that she really liked the series and thought that I would, too. It took me a lot longer than a few days to read the series, but they were hard to put down once I got started! The Terrestria Chronicles consists of seven books: - The Sword, The Ring and The Parchment - The Quest for Seven Castles - The Search for Everyman - The Crown of Kuros - The Dragon s Egg - The Golden Lamps - The Great War The series centers around a medieval theme of knights, princesses, castles, etc. Christ is King Emmanuel and the King saves the main character, Josiah, from Argamor (Satan) in the first book. After Josiah is brought into the Kingdom of Terrestria, he is mentored by Sir Faithful and learns what it means to be a son of the King. In each book, Josiah undergoes various trials and learns about faith, the power of his King, and that he cannot rely on his own power to gain success. In the third book, The Search for Everyman, two more main characters are introduced Prince Selwyn and his sister, Princess Gilda. They aid Josiah in his many adventures throughout the rest of the series. One aspect of the books that I really liked was the naming of many of the many peoples and places Sir Wisdom, the Path of Righteousness, the Castle of Faith, Captain Temptation, Woebegone, Discouragement and so on. The series is written for ages 10 and up; some younger readers won t know the definition of some of these names, but they will get a general understanding of their meanings after reading through these books! The Biblical principles that are taught in this book are sound and I found the allegories in each story helpful in showing me a new way to look at the lessons in the Bible. I don't want to give any specific examples, but I loved the way that the author takes modern day items and ideas and shows how they are Satan s tools for trying to draw us away from our Lord. We are encouraged over and over again to make Christ our first priority and shown the value of doing so. My favorite book was The Great War which tells the story of the book of Revelation in terms that a child can understand. It is the final book in the series and depicts the greatness of our King, leaving a lasting impression in my mind. I thought about this book for several days afterwards. I plan to read this series with my son as his Bible study during our upcoming school year. We will go through one book monthly, reading and discussing each story and learning more about our King of kings and Lord of lords! I know that he will be enraptured by the fantasy setting and able to identify with Josiah. I have read a modified children's version of The Pilgrim's Progress with my children, but I believe that The Terrestria Chronicles are much easier to understand while getting many of the same points across to the reader. They are definitely more action-packed! I highly recommend this series for all families ... it will open up a whole new world of understanding of what it means to be a son or daughter of our wonderful King! - Product Review by Kris Price, Assistant to the Publishers, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, LLC --The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars These books are a MUST READ for every Christian....young and old!, January 13, 2008
This review is from: Terrestria Chronicles -- The Quest for Seven Castles (Perfect Paperback)
About a year and a half ago, my then 10 year old son, bought these books with his own
money because they sounded like something he would like. (Knights and castles) He was
raving about how wondererful they were and read the whole series in less than a week.
My husband, wondering what all the "fuss" was about decided to read "The Sword, the
Ring and the Parchment" too. He was so impressed and too, went on to read all 7 books,
and recommended that I do too. I don't have tons of time to read, being a homeschool
mom of 6 children, but I read every one of the books in the Terrestria Chronicles and was
so blown away at not only how wonderfully written they were, but how incredibly they
were able to explain our spiritual walk with God and encourage me in my own personal
relationship with Him.
Another great plus, or maybe THE best part, is that, having read them, we are able to use
the books to refer to when explaining spiritual truths to our children. That has been so
neat. I can say, "Remember Prince Josiah when he did......" and they can immediately
relate and understand what I'm trying to show them.
These books are worth their weight in gold. You will never regret this purchase!!! If your
children love knights and castles, they will love these books. They are not just for boys
though, either. My 7yo "girly" daughter begs me to read another chapter. It even keeps my
5yo's attention. Thank you Mr Dunlop for allowing God to work through you. These
books, in my opinion, are much better than even Pilgrim's Progress!

The Quest for Seven Castles is my FAVORITE book in the series. It is just so full of adventure and spiritual truths, I want to read it again and again and again!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great second book in a great series!, February 1, 2010
This review is from: Terrestria Chronicles -- The Quest for Seven Castles (Perfect Paperback)
The Quest for Seven Castles is the second book in the Christian fiction series, The Terrestria Chronicles. This is a seven-book series which consists of the following books:

#1 Terrestria Chronicles -- The Sword, the Ring, and the Parchment
#2 Terrestria Chronicles -- The Quest for Seven Castles
#3 Terrestria Chronicles -- The Search for Everyman
#4 The Crown of Kuros : An Allegory ( The Terrestria Chronicles, Book 4 )
#5 Terrestria Chronicles - The Dragon's Egg
#6 Terrestria Chronicles - The Golden Lamps
#7 Terrestria Chronicles - The Great War

It is not entirely necessary to read this series in order, but reading it in order will help to eliminate any confusion, and one will more fully enjoy the series in this way. The series' main character is Josiah, and he is prominant in every one of the books, although in book six, The Golden Lamps, he doesn't show up until about halfway through the book.

This series is an allegory about the Christian life somewhat similar to John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress in that it starts with Josiah accepting Christ (in this book series, He is always called, Emmanuel) as his savior, and then following Josiah's life to its conclusion in Heaven.

There is also a companion book to the Terrestria series called Visits to Terrestria/Study Guide. This is a study guide which will allow readers to more fully grasp the wealth of meaning in these captivating books.

This series is then followed up by a companion series of stand-alone books set in the world of Terrestria called, "Tales From Terrestria". This series is planned to also be seven books, of which 3 have been released at the current time. The books in this series are as follows:

#1 The Quest for Thunder Mountain (Tales from Terrestria, Volume 1)
#2 The Golden Dagger - Amazon doesn't have this book in their system yet, but you can find it at Ed Dunlop's website.
#3 (coming Spring 2010)
#4 The Isle of Dragons (Tales From Terrestria)
#5 (future)
#6 (future)
#7 (future)

This is the second of a seven book series, The Terrestria Chronicles. This series is encouraging & convicting. There is no "magic" or spookiness. These are clean books, that uplife the name of our Lord, or King Emmanuel, as called in the book. Great reading for older kids and adults.
