Terri Hendrix has always preferred to celebrate the light rather than wallow in the blues — but she’s no stranger to facing the dark head-on. On her new album, Cry Till You Laugh, the award-winning Texas songwriter spins sorrow into joy and wrings wisdom from the blues with the poetic grace and uplifting melodic flair that has long been her trademark. As Jim Beal of the San Antonio ... Read more in Amazon's Terri Hendrix Store

Editorial Reviews

Music is never more engaging than when it's live, and this is especially true of bluegrass and folk. Terri Hendrix Live is no exception. With a charm and intimacy that recalls Michelle Shocked's Texas Campfire Tapes, Hendrix and her band deliver the goods with finesse but also with foot-stompin' energy. Recorded in the historic Cibolo Creek Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, Live showcases the immense talents of Lloyd Maines--best known for producing and playing with the likes of Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, and the Dixie Chicks--on steel guitar and mandolin, and the swinging rhythm section of Glenn Fukunaga and Paul Pearcy. Standout tracks include "Sister's Song," a caressing and intimate folk song that is a poignant testament to the bonds that tie families together, and a rousing version of the Waterboys' "Fisherman's Blues" that rivals the original. Ultimately, the most notable feature of this batch of tunes is Hendrix's great songwriting and the joy that is so obvious in her performance. This set will surely have you dancin' in your living room! --Michael Wells

5.0 out of 5 stars Terri surprised me for the third time. August 11, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
For the thirtd time Terri surprised me with a very good CD and everytime they are getting better. Now with my favorite drummer Paul Piercy. The way "$2 shoes" is done on this live reording. I wished I was there on that night in Cibolo, but when I close my eyes during listening: it is close.

5.0 out of 5 stars Texas at its best! July 25, 1999
Format:Audio CD
Terri and her band show off their musical chops on this live album. I had the good fortune of being on the front row at Cibolo Creek Country Club when it was recorded. It sounds as good right now as it did that night. Terri sings her own solid originals as well as songs from her favorite Texas songwriters. Her voice will reach in and grab your heart. This album is fun, funny, touching, raucous and much more. Don't pass this one up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best artist going in Texas right now. June 22, 1999
Format:Audio CD
Terri Hendrix is the real enormous stage presence, and a well produced live CD that shows her diversity in songwriting and performing. Sister Song may be her best effort ever and will definitely make you blubber. Gravity and The Know How really rock. She is destined for the big time and when that happens, you'll be glad you caught her on the way up when you could still see her "live" with a little elbow room.
