High on interest, but not research-oriented, February 12, 2001

This review is from: Ten Terrific Authors for Teens (Collective Biographies) (Library Binding)
This book contains brief biographies for ten different authors of young adult literature. The ten authors in the book are: Judy Blume, Virginia Hamilton, Julius Lester, Lois Lowry, Pyhllis Reynolds Naylor, Katherine Paterson, Gary Paulsen, Gary Soto, R.L. Stine, and Laurence Yep. Each chapter (biography) is about 10 pages long and covers how each writer grew up and began to write. The content is very interesting and will likely appeal to teens, although it is not packed with the type of information researchers look for. The biographies flow more like a story and the facts are buried within. Each chapter contains a couple of pictures of the author, but that is all that the book contains aside from text. Additional features are a preface about becoming a writer, an index, and a list of "Further Reading" for each author in the book.
