More About the Author

Aaron Paul Lazar wasn't always a mystery writer. It wasn't until eight members of his family and friends died within five years that the urge to write became overwhelming. "When my father died, I lost it. I needed an outlet, and writing provided the kind of solace I couldn't find elsewhere."

Lazar created the Gus LeGarde mystery series, with the founding novel, DOUBLE FORTÉ (2004), a chilling winter mystery set in the Genesee Valley of upstate New York. Like Lazar's father, protagonist Gus LeGarde is a classical music professor. Gus, a grandfather, gardener, chef, and nature lover, plays Chopin etudes to feed his soul and thinks of himself as a "Renaissance man caught in the 21st century." This book has since be rereleased in 2012 as an "author's preferred edition," via Twilight Times Books.

The creation of the series lent Lazar the comfort he sought, yet in the process, a new passion was unleashed. Obsessed with his parallel universe, he now lives, breathes, and dreams about his characters, and has written ten LeGarde mysteries in eight years. (UPSTAGED - 2005; TREMOLO: CRY OF THE LOON - 2007 Twilight Times Books; MAZURKA - 2009 Twilight Times Books, FIRESONG - 2011, DON'T LET THE WIND CATCH YOU - 2013, VIRTUOSO - 2014, with more to come.) The author has just completed his twenty-first novel.

One day while rototilling his gardens, Lazar unearthed a green cat's eye marble, which prompted the new paranormal mystery series featuring Sam Moore, retired country doctor and passionate gardener. The green marble, a powerful talisman, connects all three of the books in the series, whisking Sam back in time to uncover his brother's dreadful fate fifty years earlier. (HEALEY'S CAVE, 2010; TERROR COMES KNOCKING, 2011; FOR KEEPS, 2012) Lazar intends to continue both series.

Lazar's books feature breathless chase scenes, nasty villains, and taut suspense, but are also intensely human stories, replete with kids, dogs, horses, food, romance, and humor. The author calls them, "country mysteries," although reviewers have dubbed them "literary mysteries."

"It seems as though every image ever impressed upon my brain finds its way into my work. Whether it's the light dancing through stained-glass windows in a Parisian chapel, curly slate-green lichen covering a boulder at the edge of a pond in Maine, or hoarfrost dangling from a cherry tree branch in mid-winter, these images burrow into my memory cells. In time they bubble back, persistently itching, until they are poured out on the page."

In 2009, Kodak gave him up for grabs, and during the year off before he landed in his coveted new job with KB America, he had time to explore and reconnect with his environment. Little did he know that several trips to the Adirondack Mountains would reawaken his passion for that part of the country. Two new books were written in that time frame, starting yet another mystery series, Tall Pines Mysteries. The first two combooks in the series, FOR THE BIRDS - 2011 and ESSENTIALLY YOURS - 2012 have been winning literary awards. Keep an eye out for SANCTUARY (2014), and MURDER ON THE SACANDAGA (2015), coming via Twilight Times Books.

In between all the novels, Lazar found time to issue three writing guides based on his many years of writing advice blogs, entitled WRITE LIKE THE WIND, volumes 1-3. These are available in eBook and audio book.

In his twenty-first book, Lazar has jumped genre. THE SEACREST - OCT 2013 -, a love story, is poised to capture hearts across the globe.

The author lives on a ridge overlooking the Genesee Valley in upstate New York with his wife, mother-in-law, two dogs, and cat. He finds grandfathering one of the most precious and important times of life, and spends as much time as possible with Julian, Gordon, and Isabella.

Lazar maintains several websites and blogs, was the Gather Saturday Writing Essential host for three years, writes his monthly "Seedlings" columns for the Voice in the Dark literary journal and the Future Mystery Anthology Magazine. He has been published in Absolute Write as well as The Great Mystery and Suspense Magazine. See excerpts and reviews here:

Reading a Lazar novel is like coming home after being gone for a long time. You drive through town seeing the old pizza place and, further down the road, you ease toward the center of the road to give some fast pumping kids a bit more room while they bike to the local park. Lazar’s stories evoke comfortable memories of the past: treasures of your childhood or even the dinner the night before. Getting into one of his stories is as easy as slipping into a warm bed on a cold winter night. The characters come alive because you know them, the friendly restaurant owner and that teenager next door. The pages of his novel turn themselves over and before you know it, you are immersed in a mystery, intimate, yet entirely new.

In Terror Comes Knocking, the mystery starts with his college-aged daughter missing from her apartment. Her roommate down plays any concern about the daughter’s disappearance. Sam remains the worried parent. Very quickly, the mundane becomes mysterious and Sam Moore uses his analytical skills, honed as a doctor, to unravel the many threads tied to the stubborn and total absence of his daughter.

With the help of his long deceased brother, a ghost who sees all, but can only show bits and pieces, Sam discovers a plot with far more ramifications than his missing daughter. In fact, our nation’s security is in peril.

The action accelerates in the last fifty pages of the novel. A warning: turn off your phone, hide in your bedroom, don’t plan on anything else but finishing the book. The pieces to the puzzle fit together and the final picture is one of absolute terror. Be prepared for a sort of roller coaster ride and don’t plan on doing anything else until you reach the end.

This is my second Sam Moore novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

With literary accolades for 'Healey's Cave' in his pocket, Aaron Lazar and his Green Marble Mystery (series) featuring Sam Moore, now present 'Terror Comes Knocking'.

Retired Dr. Sam Moore and his family, Bruce--Sam's childhood friend turned U.S. Senator, along with The Green Marble itself, reappear from 'Healey's Cave' to offer excellent characterization to this second installation novel. Aaron Paul Lazar uses each of these well rounded characters to create and to sustain the thrilling plot of 'Terror Comes Knocking'.

In its opening pages, Sam and Rachel casually wonder why their college student daughter has not called. A dutiful daughter living away from home, Beth is keen on making contact with her mother on a daily basis. Where is she? The answer to that question is not forthcoming. What does come is a barrage of unimaginable events that force the upstate New York couple to realize that their daughter's missing is more serious than they both expected.

From that point on, one terror after the next knocks at the Moore's front door. From that point on, people Rachael and Sam believed would help them find Beth, prove to be unreliable.

Sam and Bruce unite to bring her home.

From that point on, Lazar skillfully crafts this mystery thriller as only he can. His natural "feel" for the mystery storytelling process masterfully comes to surface once more. By the time 'Terror Comes Knocking' arrives at its climax, readers will find themselves plenty of times exclaiming aloud,OMG!

Oh My Gosh! What an exquisitely told mystery thriller, what a fine pick for your next reading pleasure. And oh yes. Brace yourself for Terror Comes Knocking's formidable ending!

Another wonderful story by Mr. Lazar. Sam Moore is a wonderful man or woman's man that would just like to rest in his retirement, tend his gardens and love his wife and family but trouble keeps coming to find him. It appears to be his purpose in life to right wrongs and save the day whenever necessary. The character is easy to admire, laugh with and at and cheer on as he has many close calls that leave the reader breathless. The love this character has for others, especially his family and friends, is real and not presented in a patronizing manner by the author.

Many current event topics that fit in our lives today are addressed and open up the possibility for intriguing discussions. This would be a great book to be enjoyed by either gender and also be a superb bookclub choice.

Another adept ability Lazar has is that no matter the role in his books, a character is never flat, one dimensional or easily defined. This reader has found that when a character enters on a page, one should tread carefully, watching what is said and done. It almost brings the reader into the Dr. Watson role, helping to watch for hints and secrets to understand the story and urge the protagonist on to succeed on his/her journey. Making a visit to Sam and his family was pure perfection.

The only disappointing part was reading the last two words, The End.

Yes, Mr. Lazar. You have done it again. Thank you.

Have you ever read a book and thought it was so good, and didn't want it to end?

That's how I felt after reading Terror Comes Knocking by Aaron Paul Lazar. I just wanted the story to keep on going.

Terror Comes Knocking, is a novel in the Sam Moore Mystery series. This book takes you into a whole different world, and you experience an adventure unlike any other. It's interesting, it's paranormal, and it's one you won't be able to put down. The character development is excellent; everything is so descriptive that you feel like you are a character in the book!

Synopsis

The story begins with Sam Moore, a retired GP doctor. Alongside his wife, Rachel (who unfortunately has MS), they run into a very an unexpected situation; one that a retired doctor shouldn't need to deal with. Their daughter, Beth, is missing. Nobody seems to know where she is, nor does anybody seem to take the Moore's seriously. Sam knows there is something terribly wrong, and does everything he can to find Beth.

Guided by his deceased brother, Billy, who speaks to Sam through a extraordinary green marble, Sam Moore slowly unravels the twisted story behind his daughter's disappearance.

Sam's good friend Bruce (the Senator) is a candidate in the nearing presidential election. As Bruce is under a large amount of pressure due to the current president visiting, he is also taking on a bit of stress in helping the Moore's locate their daughter.

As the story unfolds, we are introduced to an interesting group of people, people that may be concealing far more than they are letting on.

Terror Comes Knocking is absolutely jam packed with action you don't want to miss out on. At 240 pages, you won't want to reach the endpoint.
