In an effort to determine why he didn't like to read, he discovered that for him the style of most children's books ". . . was boring, the dialog sometimes sparse, or when it was used, it seemed to adult."

Terrific Book, Terrific Plot, Terrific Message!,
By Kim (Springfield, MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Terror at Wolf Lake (Tweener Press Adventure Series #2) (Paperback)
"Terror at Wolf Lake" is an excellent addition to any young reader's library! As the reader follows Eddy, Chet, Rusty and their fathers on a winter trip to Eddy's cabin in Michigan, the adventures begin. From a near fatal sledding accident on the ice to the boys' unforeseen involvement with a robbery, the reader is anxious to turn the next page to see what's in store. Young readers will love the storyline and parents will enjoy the clean, pure message of the book. Written in a clearly evangelistic Christian approach, the author doesn't compromise the message or make the story unrealistic. Juveniles easily identify with the personalities of the characters and discover that they can influence their friends in a positive way. "Terror at Wolf Lake" is an enjoyably ethical story with a fresh, fun approach the young readers will truly enjoy.

Eddy is a charismatic lad, & a cheater. While he is liked, he isn't trusted. He doesn't care. "Everything I know about beating the system I learned from my dad." (Page 6) He is constantly working the odds, cutting corners, always on the lookout for the freebie. He is fast becoming a master cheater, which neither of his school friends participate in or like.On Christmas vacation at a cabin in Michigan with his father, his friends & their dads & a ton of snow, trouble finds the three boys in the form of bank robbers on the run with their stash. Naturally, Eddy is figuring out how to cheat the robbers out of the money they have stolen. The trouble is the trouble follows him home, & this time he has to listen to his friends. Rebeccasreads recommends TERROR AT WOLF LAKE as a fine adventure story with something to teach about Christian ethical living.

Well done plot for the adolescent reader,
This review is from: Terror at Wolf Lake (Tweener Press Adventure Series #2) (Paperback)
"Terror at Wolf Lake" is a fine adventure/mystery story written for the juvenile market. It is the story of Eddy, Chet, and Rusty who take a winter trip with their fathers to a cabin in Michigan. The trip is fun and an adventure in itself camping in the secluded woods, cooking over a fireplace, bringing in wood to keep the fireplace going in order to keep warm. They have a lot of fun in the ice and snow but things change when they build a snow fort and happen to be in it when two people stop by on the road and start acting suspiciously. From there the adventure really begins and things get pretty scary at times. This is a fun adventure that juvenile readers are likely to enjoy, however, there is one thing that should be pointed out before purchasing the book. Well into the plot, after the boys become legitimately scared, the tone of the story changes as one of the boys evangelizes the other in their moment of fear and eventually leads the other boy to Christ. This is so blatant that it is likely to polarize groups of people who read the book. Many Christians will purchase the book in part just because of this section and because it opens opportunities to talk about such things with their children. Others who are not Christians or are of other religious persuasions are likely to reject the book in its entirety. Still others will not care one way or the other. As a reader you have to decide for yourself how you feel about a story that contains a section that is basically a religious tract. Even with this caveat "Terror at Wolf Lake" is a recommended read due to the clear, easy reading style and fairly strong plot line that juvenile adventure readers are likely to enjoy.
