One of the Few Books on Bioterrorism, February 8, 2005
This review is from: Terrorism and Disaster Management: Preparing Healthcare Leaders for the New Reality (Paperback)
Large scale incidents, both man made and natural, have ocurred from time to time. So far these have been trama oriented, that is, physical injuries requiring patching people back together.
This book takes another direction, towards how the medical profession might handle a bioterrorism incident. What happenens if large numbers of people suddenly turn sick, what if they are infectious? What happens to the first responders? What happens with drug shortages or if they don't work?
This book is a collection of essays from a number of specialists in these areas. It talks about how the military is structured to handle such problems and talks about how the civilian health care system might respond.
This is a pioneering book by and for professionals who may be faced with a serious problem at any time.
