Book Description

TERRORISM The Only Way is Through- A Child's Story tells the story of eight-year old Mark and his four-year old brother, Jamie, who suffer the loss of their mother as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, in New York City.

This book helps children to understand their thoughts and feelings with respect to terrorism. It shows families, professionals, and others how to help children to cope with post-traumatic stress, identify warning signs, and the issues to be addressed.

The book will be particularly helpful for children ages six to twelve. These children will readily identify with the thoughts and feelings of the main character. Older children will benefit from reading the book by themselves, especially if they are not yet ready or willing to talk about their thoughts and feelings. Younger children will benefit from having the book read and explained to them.

"This book symbolizes how we all need to look at life's difficulties. The only way is through!" -- Parent

From the Author

TERRORISM The Only Way is Through- A Child's Story was written for all of the children who experienced, personally or through television and other media, the tragic events that occurred on September 11th 2001 in New York City, Washington DC, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The book came about as I reflected on the events of that day, and wondered what I could do to help these children, their parents and families. I have written the book especially for children six to twelve years of age, in order to help them understand their thoughts and feelings with respect to terrorism and its consequences.

This review is from: Terrorism: The Only Way Is Through: A Child's Story (Paperback)
This is a well-written book that describes the varied feelings, thoughts, and other reactions that may be experienced by children following the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. The story is written in words children can understand and relate to, and it provides a positive model for coping with these events. This book will be a valuable resource for mental health professionals, teachers, and parents who are trying to help children understand and cope with feelings arising from 9/11.
