4.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked electro-industrial band., October 21, 2001

Are these guys around anymore? I haven't heard any new material from them in a long time.
Manufacture hail from Toronto and made it onto the Nettwerk label where, like some other Canadian industrial bands, they were overshadowed by countrymates Skinny Puppy. Manufacture doesn't sound like Skinny Puppy, though. On another of their albums ("Voice of World Control"), they sound synthpoppy at times, like Depeche Mode. This album is a good example of EBM with a lot of samples and repetition. Plus, it has a beautifully eerie song, "As The End Draws Near", with guest vocals by labelmate Sarah McLachlan, which is very surprising! I wouldn't necessarily endorse this album to fans of hers (unless you're a hardcore fan who must have everything she's done) because musically it differs radically from her own material. Overall, that song, as well as "Passion For The Future", "Armed Forces", and the title track make this album an welcome addition to any industrial fan's collection.
