I really like these covers. We have three. They did seem to shrink a little after we washed them, but overall, they fit fine. Also, I don't have a problem with the straps. The straps are attached underneath and come over the pad and cover. I don't really understand where the need for the slots comes in.I especially like how absorbant they are. Besides changing diapers, we use the pad and the covers in the bathroom after our baby's bath. Any moisture that the baby towel didn't absorb, the cover did. They also wash up quite nicely. We had a few accidents when our baby first came home, but a little spray in wash and there were no stains. These are a great item and you should have at least two.

Not the perfect pad,

Why didn't they make these covers with slits in the side for the safety straps the changing pads have? The maker of this product, Simmons, also made the coordinating, contoured changing pad we use, so that design flaw just doesn't make sense. These pads are soft and do wash well, and do fit and stay put on the coordinating changing pad, but I would recommend not using pads of this type at all for everyday. We use these covers as cover ups only, when guests are coming and we want the changing pad to look new and pretty. Just change your baby on the uncovered vinyl pad itself, so that you can use the safety straps and can also clean the changing pad with antiseptic or other wipes after messy changes or when your baby boy wets all over it. Or, put a coordinating flannel blanket, folded in quarters, down on the pad for baby's head and shoulders to rest on if you think the pad's vinyl is too cold for middle-of-the night changes. The blankets are cheaper, easier to clean and don't interfere with the use of the safety straps.

I registered for both the Simmons changing pad and two covers for my shower. I received the pad but no covers. We purchased a cover from USA Baby (where we bought furniture) first. That cover works well, and has the slots for the safety straps. I only had the one at first, and it has been washed a lot with no shrinkage or fading (I have yellow). My mom purchased a Simmons cover from my registry (you really do need two covers!) two months ago. The color is a nicer shade of yellow (we have the Suzy's Zoo decor from Babie's R' Us), but that is the only thing I like. I washed it once before use in cold water and it was very difficult to put on the pad. I had to bend the pad to get the cover to fit. Now I have bent corners on my pad! I also hate that theree are no slots for the safety straps. One would think that since Simmons made the pad, they would make the cover to fit correctly! I have since bought another cover from USA Baby.

it shrinks!!,

I thought this would be the nicest changing pad cover since the terry cloth is much thicker and nicer than any other brand. But the cover shrinks more each time I wash it and it barely stretches over mySimmons changing pad. NoJo brand covers fit over Simmons brand changing pads much better ! The Nojo brand covers aren't as thick as the Simmons brand but they retain their shape much better.

Cover is not very good,

After the first wash the chaning pad cover shrunk a little to small to fit the contoured changing pad (and still be able to lay flat) and there were a few pulls in the terrycloth. Not well made. The coutoured chaning pad is great, but they rip you off by getting you to buy a copule of the poor quality chaning pad covers for almost the price of the pad.

Great, comfy covers for the changing pad,

These covers are a nice accessory for the contoured changing pad, especially with all the colors to match your nursery. They are nice and soft. I have never had a problem with fit, despite many washings. One problem I have had with it though is that tiny little chunks of poop from my son's diapers sometimes get caught in the terry fabric. This makes it hard to clean. Even though, I have tried to pretreat it before washing, you can still see some of the tiny stains, especially on the white ones. Anyway, I put on an all-purpose waterproof flat white flannel pad (that doesn't cover the whole thing) to avoid this problem, which defeats the purpose of me having one of these in any pretty colors. All in all though, I think you should have at least one of these for the contoured changing pad for a little extra comfort for your baby.

Good Stuff,

When we decided to forego the changing table for an attachment to the baby's dresser, we really lucked out in finding these changing pad covers. They wash up nicely, are easy to get stains out of, and, after 7 months, we are still using the same 3 we originally purchased. I will say that we have gotten a few pulls in the terry and that the color in the pink (we have yellow, pink and light blue) is a little lighter than it was when it was new, but all-in-all, the terry serves so well as a cover. As far as 'shrinkage' is concerned, I would agree that it may seem as though the covers are smaller when changing, but it definitely (at least for me) was an issue of making sure the ends were lined up properly...once things were lined up, the fit was just fine. I'm definitely pleased.

adds comfort to the changing pad,

This adds a soft layer to the plastic covered changing pad, making it more comfortable for the baby. You need to have at least 2 to make it worth while, so if the baby burps, pees or poops on it you can take it off and put on a fresh one.

Best changing pad cover,

I love these covers. They fit perfectly over the Simmons changing pad and feel good against the skin. They also wash like a dream - my first two covers (bought 2 1/2 years ago for baby #1) must have been washed 50 times or more by now and they still look like new (except for a few snags when I got caught with my watch): the color is still deep and rich, the terry is still plush and the cover overall still has plenty of stretch and its original shape and size. And all spit-up and other liquids (or solids) that ever got on them washed out completely. As to the problems some people pointed out: The cover looks like it shrank when you first put it on (it sort of forms a hammock) - when you put the baby on the pad/cover, the cover will stretch to its full potential and take on the shape of the pad. As to the 'problem' using the straps on the pad: the straps are attached at the bottom seam of the pad, so using them with this cover is no problem at all, at best (worst?) you lift the cover a wee bit at the sides and everything will fit in smoothly. I loved these covers so much I went and bought 3 more for baby #2, so we now have 5 (!) of them and always a fresh one in case of a changing mishap. I can strongly recommend these - I even recently bought two of them for my sister-in-law.

Comparatively...Not-So-Hot,

I have two of these changing pad covers and used them both for a year with my first child. They are mediocre. I noticed that the material frayed around the elastic after a few months of use. I stitched them back up, but it looks kind of cruddy and the material continues to unravel in new places. I agree with one of the other comments regarding a slit for the safety strap...one is not present. Finally, I used it with the changing pad by "Especially for Baby" and the fit was a bit too tight which resulted in the pad curving a bit over time.
For a few more dollars, I would strongly recommend looking at Pottery Barn Kids' chamois pad covers. They are extrememly soft (you'll wish your sheets were made out of this stuff!), have the safety strap slits and fit the changing pad perfectly. |
