This book is filled with beautiful photographs of Terry John Woods' personalized styling and artistry. Each time I pick it up it takes me to a calm place where I can relax and enjoy the pros, family photos and treasures, beautiful flowers, handcrafted santas and teddy bears. Terry's groupings of similar items gave me many ideas for displaying my collections. The simple, tasteful use of linens, pottery, antiques, bottles, art, reclaimed furniture, slipcovers show anyone can create a lovely home with their personal and family treasures and items found at fleamarkets or yard sales. Terry makes it look so easy.

I loved all the Christmas holiday decorating ideas and, as a gardener, I was thrilled to see all the outside living themes using flowers, furniture, pots, shrubbery and various implements.

My friends are also in love with this book

If you like a crisp, white interior, this book is for you. If you like color, then you probably won't care for this book. I live in northern NY, and winter is six months long. Living in a house that is painted all white would be even more chilling. Also the decor is what I would rather impractical, if not downright silly.
One of the few photos I enjoyed was a picture that included bright red winterberries against a white background. That was beautiful.

Nice photos and all, but if I saw one more stinkin' ironstone pitcher as a focal point, I was going to explode. It started to get under my skin. It was as though the authors were "playing house". The photos were more like staging than actual decorating and didn't seem, at least to me, to present a practical, cohesive, homey feel. For instance, a floor to ceiling, wall to wall stack of cut firewood behind a bed for "visual interest"? Have you actually ever investigated what lives in your wood pile? And you want to bring that into your house in that quantity? Weird. The numerous photos of collections of decrepit, mismatched, ancient baby shoes just creeped me out. I am always on the lookout for inspiration for my 1760 house, and have enjoyed many other lovely style books for old houses. This will be passed along to the local library.

The careful work and fine hands of Terry, Dale and Kindra have created another beautiful book. When I see books with such spectacular pictures, I seldom take the time to read the explanations. In this case, the writing is tender and thoughtful as it invites you to the next page. The appreciation of the ordinary is clear even as the ordinary is so beautifully treated and displayed. The appreciation of the past that is expressed in the old family photos is very touching and makes me want to dig into the books and boxes in my own storage bin. Congratulations to the creators of this splendid volume.

Excellent decorating/coffeetable book. I am fortunate enough to have been able to personally tour Terry & Dale's farmhouse in Shrewsbury, VT. The house looks exactly like the photos in Terry's book and his ability to decorate using old and new is a natural talent. Although White-on-White may not be everyone's style, the IDEAS for decorating can be used to enhance any space. This is a throughly enjoyable book and would make a great addition to any collection.

I'm sorry but this book is a little lacking on substance. I noticed many, many repeat props in the photos. ALso, just seemed a little light on creativity and certainly was inexpensive to produce. Not much variety in the locations it seemed. For me, it was not worth the money. I do not see myself viewing the book a second time. Nice photographic quality though.

For what it's worth.

The style shown is great. I only wish the pages had been balanced with more full room shots. Though the photography is stunning and the taste is wonderful I am now reluctant to purchase a second book of Terry John Woods for fear it will be only details again. The book 'American Farmhouses / Country Style and Design' by Leah Rosch/ Simon & Schuster 2002 show a lot of wonderful rooms with a farmhouse approach and some relief from the mostly white-on-white rooms in this book. A blend of these two books would be the perfect book for me.
