5.0 out of 5 stars Jaw-dropping Musical Perfection, November 6, 2011
This review is from: Tertia (MP3 Download)
Personal Note:
Caspian's "Tertia" was my first known experience with post-rock. And they did a fantastic job with this one, setting my bar extremely high for the genre. It has to be one of my favorite albums to date. I essentially have the album memorized.

Review:
The album proceeds over 10 tracks of flowing, elegant, melodic, and overall, beautiful instrumentation. The whole band got together for this one. Every element of the music is brought out in it's own way. From the precise drums changing time and beat, to the pummeling bass guitar beating it's way into the depths (and forefronts), to the guitar riffs and rhythms that expand the feeling of space around you, and the ambient textures that soothe the body, this album brings out every part.

Each track has it's own unique feel and flavor, with no other track on the album coming close to sounding the same. Therefore, the entirety of the album always has your attention with what is going to come up next. Entirely captivating, and entirely intriguing. One track will have a more ambient feel, and then run into the next track which is overpowering with musical affluence, and then back again. And of course, this is what the whole album spends its time doing.

Words alone cannot describe the soundscapes created. From relaxed and calm, to intense and epic, this album covers all the bases of feelings and emotions through the music.

I promote and support this album. Pick up the entire record, sit back, and enjoy. Please your ears a little.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid post-rock album, May 15, 2011
This review is from: Tertia (Audio CD)
There's nothing on Caspians' Tertia that hasn't been explored in their genre. There's elemants of Pelican, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, and all the usual post-rock comparisons. However, this is an incredibly solid record, and at times more accessable and even more unexpected than the afforamentioned bands. The songwriting is sleek and concise and rarely spends time meandering and creates an overall fantastic aural experience. Highly recommended for anyone who's a fan of the instrumental post-rock genre.

This review is from: Tertia (Audio CD)
Caspian is a solid band and once again have put out a great record. This is all instrumental, softer than the Four Trees, but still great in many ways. If you're into really melodic, deep instrumental stuff heavy with the digital delay, check this band out.
