A great book combining political and personal conflicts!, March 2, 1998

This book is a great read. I enjoyed it on two levels, both for the political and military insider's view and for the universal appeal of the female character who struggles with opposing "allegiances" in her life. The author writes with the eye of a Washington insider, and this enriches the political/military drama. The wife of the Secretary of State is the lead female character who, although her conflict is driven by ethnic feelings, could be any of us who feel torn by two or more aspects of our lives. We all struggle to stay true to marriage, children, committments, career and our own needs. This book addresses the consiquences of trying to separate ourselves from who we are. I recommend this one!

I originally purchased the book as a curiosity while browsing for fiction; the book is really well written and fun to read. I'm very impressed though how well the author presents the conflicting characters which come to play in setting foreign policy. Well done!
