This is the best racing game for the PS2 that you can buy if you want to go off roading, jump some hills, and basically have the time of your life. You get the following cars: Chevy Blazer(the big one, not the S-10 version)and Silverado, Dodge Durango and Ram-2500( the truck is actually A 1500), Hummer Soft top, Hummer Wagon, Jeep CJ-5 and Wrangler, Ford Bronco and F-150,. This game truly has off- road supremacy. The " Free Roam" feature is truly one of the most expansive I have ever seen, seemingly limitless in space. The three areas, Yosemite, a forest locale, Hawaii, complete with beaches and an active volcano, and Moab, a sandy place with many fun jumps. Most would say that the game lacks the true realism that is deserving of such a title. I say, Who cares?I am not a racing game fan, but this is one game that I can play for hours on end. If you want strict realism, get GT3. I have it and it does a very commendable job of simulating real life tolerances. But if you just want some fun, with no explosions, just high-flying jumps, and getting extremely dirty, get this A.S.A.P.

I Love this game. The graphics are nothing special in this game but it doesnt matter because the game play is so great. You get to choose from 13 different trucks and hummers and you race them all over these massive levels. Though theres only 3 levels ive been playing for days and i havent found everything yet. The trucks in the game are great once you start unlocking the pimped out versions. And theres 4 other cars you can unlock i have unlocked 2 so far (the hummvee and the shelby durango) the humvee is extremely fast on the jumps and tough terrian where the shelby is not, but on straitways the shelby can hit 160 which is about 40 mph faster than any of the other cars. The game starts out fairly easy but once you hit the 4th season it gets real hard which is fun because you have to learn to spin out the computer trucks better than they do it to you which happens alot. All in all this game is great if you love original games and its fun to play tag with a friend in free roam so i think fun factor alone gives this game 5 stars. But just to warn you this doesnt have the graphics or the realism that gran turismo 3 has but its ok because gt3 is too realistic and i hate that game.

if your looking for a game with a lot of fun factor, then this is it! I like the looks of games like gt, but when it comes to the fast paced arcadey feel TDOR does it. I felt the makers of this game went for the jumps and fast paced racing that makes you want to do have fun with it, and it has a steady progression level that keeps it challenging. I thought this game had the right amount of realism, but didn't take themselves too seriously so that the enjoyment would suffer.

TDORWO is a game that I have been looking forward to for some time. I am a huge fan of the Driver series for PlayStation, and Angel Studios' previous PS2 title Midnight Club was a game that captured some of the elements of Driver that I liked. I love being able to drive around and explore an environment. The concept of taking that exploration offroad was one that really appealed to me, so I have been following the development of TDORWO since it was first announced. I picked it up the day it came out and was ecstatic to learn that there is a Free Roam mode. Unfortunately, I have to report that I am a bit disappointed with the final product. I have been absorbed in GT3 since it came out, and that game's graphics and realistic physics just aren't matched in TDORWO. The environments aren't quite as large or interesting as I would have liked, and the career mode isn't very involving. The controls are floaty and the physics are questionable, even though they are touted as being just like the real vehicles in the instruction manual. While the vehicles can't actually climb a 90 degree incline, they are able to climb an 89 degree incline, hang there using traction, and drive laterally along a sheer cliff face. Hardly realistic. Damage modeling is barely present, and amounts to the rear-mounted spare wheel falling off if you hit a tree hard enough. The side of the truck will accumulate a bit of dirt, mud, etc, but hardly an accurate amount. The environments are pretty big, and there's a lot going on, but the Hawaii stage in particular seems a bit rushed, with repetitive textures and sparse vegetation. I like the Moab, Utah stage the best, because it has little touches that make exploration seem worthwhile. The other two don't really. But that's just me. Maybe you're not interested in Free Roam mode, or exploration at all. The racing is competent, but the AI is far from perfect, and some cheap shots come from the competition when they ram you from behind and cause you to spin out. There are three different types of races-Circuit (laps around a laid-out track), Blitz (point A to point B while hitting checkpoints along the way), and Scramble (hitting all the checkpoints in any order you choose). The Career Mode gives you a bank account and cars to purchase/upgrade, and throws you into Seasons and Leagues with different races to win more cash. It all feels pretty contrived, though, because these are the same races you would play in the arcade mode (Single Race) for free with any of the trucks in the game. Maybe I'm being a little too harsh, and maybe I had been expecting too much from this game. It is rather fun, at least during the first few days. I still can't wait to get home and play it some more. Maybe if I stop comparing every game to GT3 (not an easy thing to do), I'd enjoy it more. If you like the prospect of being able to drive and explore a 'Wide Open' environment, check it out-maybe you won't be as disappointed as I (think) I am.

When the new test drve came out i sent my mom to rent it. But she came home with this game. I started to play it and I just went on freedrive and i thought that the levels would be small but, it turned out to be huge! I couldn't find the end of the level. This came has awsome vehicles and great controols all it needs is some cops to bang up!The addons make the game the coolest.

This game is really cool! You get to choose from a buncha different offroading trucks, my favorite being the Hummer. For each offroad vehicle, you can choose between four different stages of each vehicle, with stage 4 being the best and 1 being the worst. You start out the game with a limited amount of money to buy a truck, so you need to earn a lot more money to get a better one. The different stages on each truck need to be unlocked, with 1 being available from the beginning of the game. There are multiple shortcuts on each track, with some being very obvious. There are some insane jumps in the game, and you seem to land correctly every time. Overall, this is a good game for the not-so-hardcore gamers.

I Love this game. It's so original and fun ive been playing it for hours. The graphics in the game arent great but they dont matter this game is too much fun to notice. The game play is great, though very unrealistic it's much better that way. Since the AI in the game if very cheap and unfair when they finally side swipe you and cause you to pull a 360 then you can just go do your thing all over the level. Its also fun because you can literally climb mountains and then jump off of them without damaging anything. The trucks are great, you can chose from a buch of different ones the hummers are awsome especially if you get the unlimited one and you can unlock some really cool trucks too.

Wonderful game with beautiful scenery. Plenty of racing action, several vehicles to testdrive. A must for outdoor offroading enthusiasts. Race against a friend or just free roam and enjoy the different views.

wide open isa really cool game. some things about it can really mislead u. first of all it says 3 terrains. well for each terrain there are 3 kinds of races.there are 9 races for each of those kinds of races. so overall u get 81 races. even though there r only 13 cars, each car can be upgraded 4 times, seeming to make it a whole new car. there r some glitches. ur car will not flip over or get awesome air. it seems to be magnetized to the ground like someone else said. also, the graphics rnt top notch. otherwise, this game is sweet, and i recommend buying it

It's fun to be able to drive around wildly through the mountains like a maniac. However, the mechanics of the game are extremely sloppy. One thing that bothers me is how it appears that the vehicles have magnets in the tires that stick to iron deposits in the ground. That's the only way I can explain how you can easily drive up a cliff at 90 degrees. It also explains how difficult it is to flip over when you fly off of something, and the fact that your truck isn't destroyed when you jump off of something that is as high as a skyscraper. The graphics are decent, and the world you can play in is expansive. I got this game used ... and don't mind that, but I wouldn't want to pay full retail price for it. I've played it for one day, then put it down. There may be other games in this genre that are better, as it wouldn't be difficult to improve on this. Still, it can be fun at times, so if you can get it dirt cheap, go for it. |
