Test of Faith by Christa Allan is the story of one woman who has shielded herself from the truth for sixteen years and lives the bustling life of a candidate's wife. Her husband practices his faith and is a man of principle. During the campaign, all the skeletons in the closet have to be addressed so the campaign will run smoothly Elle has one secret she has guarded for sixteen years. She has to confront it and it happens in a surprising way. A faith tested by every means possible. She has to deal with her campaigning husband, his meddling mother-in-law, her distant mother, loving sister and long lost friend.. The friend has some shocking news. Will Elle survive? Will her marriage survive?
This novel will have you sitting up late to finish it. A true testament to the daily ups and downs of true Faith. The characters are realistic as are the situations. You will truly enjoy this novel, especially the irony of the title to the story. A must read.

When asked about the qualities necessary for a happy and healthy marriage, communication ranks up at the top of the lists of most experts. Couples need to be able share important facets of themselves with each other without fear that the knowledge will be used against them. Elle has a secret she's been keeping from her husband and while she would tell you that she had put this secret in her past, of course it had more of an effect on her than she was willing to admit. Yes, you'll probably guess the secret long before it is revealed but the real tension in the book comes from the characters' reactions when the secret is revealed.

The story is set in south Louisiana, in New Orleans and Baton Rouge and I enjoyed hearing about familiar places. Elle's husband is a politician but he was far too honest to be a real Louisiana politician.

I enjoyed reading a story about a marriage that underwent tremendous strain during a very stressful time and came through the fire purified rather than burned. While perhaps a bit unrealistic about how well everything resolved, Test of Faith is a heartwarming read that I am pleased to recommend. Grade: B+.

I'd like to thank the publisher for making a review copy available via NetGalley. I was not obligated to write any review, much less a positive one.

Christa Allan won me over when I first read, "Walking on Broken Glass". She didn't just touch my heart. She reached in and changed my soul. Still today that is a favorite of mine. It sits high upon my book shelf. Now, "Test of Faith", will sit next to it.

When I realized Christa had a new release I knew I wanted to read it. She writes with passion. She takes the reader on a journey. Many times I find myself within her words, weaved into her story. Once again she has brought a novel that moves the reader.

The cover caught my eye. A classy woman, dressed in beauty, bow and all, with a hidden photo behind her. Oh, this is so telling of the story. The characters are so realistic and their lives are transparent only to us. They are like you and me. They live in a facade. They dress so the world sees perfection. The hide the pain of the past and try to pretend it never existed. But it did. It has a lasting impact on their lives.

Secrets that go untold will one day be revealed in such a way that will impact not only our life, but the lives of those we love so very much. Are we willing to accept the truth? With Elle we see that battle. We are up close and personal with Elle. I loved her character. I may not be able to relate to a woman on a campaign trail, but I can relate to a woman striving for perfection. Wanting to please everyone and be accepted. Her mother in law holds the bar high for her. I must admit that at first I didn't much like her mother in law, Martha. Queen of showing up just at the right time. Always wearing the perfect dress and always knowing just what to share. But later in the story we see a different side to Martha. A more gentle and compassionate woman appears. She and Elle connect in ways that Elle never expected.

As I've never read anything by Christa Allan before I wasn't sure what to expect. It was also Christian based too, which I don't mind as long as authors don't keep bashing it down your throat and use it as an excused to 'preach'.

This was NOT like that. I really, thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I found it a bit slow to take off at the beginning, but as time went on and you stick with it, then it opens up a brilliant crafted read.

This is a woman who has a good life, good home and a husband with a high powered career, in the Political limelight and of course, that means she is too.

When they married, they sort of agreed not to have any children, her husband, later in the story tells us why. However, she gets a bit maternal and would like to pursue that avenue but of course, its a dead end.

Later comes a 'blast from the past' that could really rock her and Logan's world.

There is a lot more to this story, but to tell you would spoil your read.

I was granted a complimentary book by Abingdon Press via Net Galley in exchange for my honest review. This does not reflect on my opinion or viewpoint of what I read.

I would highly recommend this to you, as I said, its a bit slow in the beginning but its well worth it

More About the Author

A true Southern woman who knows any cook worth her gumbo always starts with a roux and who never wears white after Labor Day, Christa Allan writes women's fiction with hope, humor, and heart.

Christa is the mother of five, and grandmother of three. She recently retired after twenty-five years of teaching high school English, so she doesn't scare easily. She and her husband Ken and their three neurotic cats live in New Orleans in a 170-year-old home where the fans and the lights turn on and off without them. But, they love it because it's in the quirky, artsy Bywater where they're one of the few residents who don't have piercings, purple hair and/or tattoos.

Test of Faith is her fifth novel. Threads of Hope released from Abingdon Press in March of 2013. Walking on Broken Glass (2010) and The Edge of Grace (2011) were also published by Abingdon. Love Finds You in New Orleans (Summerside Press) released in 2012.
