5.0 out of 5 stars Peace of mind!, June 5, 2009

This review is from: Test Medica LIVER SCAN 2 TEST (Health and Beauty)
Bilirubin, a bile breakdown product, should not be present in the urine. The chemical function of the urine dip sticks supplied in this Testmedica kit (you get two) is to measure the level of bilirubin in your urine. An accumulation of bilirubin indicates liver disease.

You compare the color of the dipped tip to a chart, clear yellow being negative for bilirubin indicating a healthy liver, three increasingly dark pinkish-brown colors indicating a problem. With a negative result, you can relax and pursue the issue no further, or if a positive result occurs you have a solid foundation on which to approach the situation with your doctor. If you have a malaise, are jaundiced, itch, have swollen ankles, you should be suspicious that your liver could be trouble, and this simple test will be your flagship. If you are a heavy drinker, it would be a good idea to monitor your liver often even if you have no adverse symptoms.

I agree with another reviewer that the shipping price is too high but the product comes very quickly and I felt it was worth the money just to get a quick answer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate, never changed color., November 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm a 32 year old male, and was concerned about my liver function, having drank excessively on weekends too many times over the past few years. Like the other reviewers, I thought this product could help identify a problem or provide some peace of mind without going to the doctor's office and getting blood tests. I used both test strips, according to instructions, but did not see the indicator change color. In fact, each indicator appeared to be already changed (showing a medium tan color) prior to use. Since white is the color of no bilirubin and tan is the color of serious liver problems, I was understandably alarmed with the results, although skeptical since the test strip never changed color. I got a liver function blood test, which showed normal ranges of liver enzymes and low amounts of bilirubin. The only reviews I've found for this product are on amazon, and appear to be written by people who haven't actually used the test strips. I would not recommend this, go to your doctor and get a blood test or urinalysis instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading, January 14, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was taking a series of medical home test. My other test were checking out okay for blood sugar and cholesterol. Then I took this Liver Home Scan. It said if the color on the strip was darker than a cream to light beige and up, it indicated serious liver disfunction. I took the first test strip and then second and they both came out dark brown!!!!! Scared the heck out of me. After figuring that I probably had stage four liver cancer, I finally got the courage to go to my doctor. Well, all my test checked out great!! Don't live in utter fear for weeks like I did. Go to your doctor or use another brand of liver test. This one not only doesn't work but may give you a false positive to the extreme. Take care everyone out there.

Signed,
Relieved in CA.
