I use the Spectrum Test Prep books a lot in tutoring. Went to buy a new copy -- which looked exactly like the old one -- without realizing it was 'New and Improved.' Instead of the old 1/2 math and 1/2 language sections, it is now divided into a bunch of parts: Social Studies, Geography, etc. There are small parts on math and language, but they are not nearly as all-inclusive. I overheard a salesperson telling another buyer -- "The old books were too much like the tests, so they have revised them." This makes me want the old version all the more. These are AWFUL.

We have used this book to prepare our kids for achievement testing for several years. This was the first year I had used this revised version and I must say it was nowhere near as helpful as prior editions. There were not enough questions in the same format as the test and the topics covered were not helpful. Review is never a bad thing so we certainly got something out of it, just wish it had been closer to the experience of taking the actual test.
