This review is from: Test Prep Grade 1: Standardized Test-Taking Skills for Reading, Math, and Language (McGraw-Hill Learning Materials Spectrum) (Paperback)
This Spectrum Test Prep: Grade 1 : Test Preparation is great to introduce your child/relative to multiple choice questions. My daughter just started first grade and is ahead already compared to the average first grader. I use this test prep to get her familiar with standarized tests and Spectrum is the Nation's #1 school testing company.

You should use the book "What your First Grader Should Know by Hirsch" first and just use the Test Prep to reinforce test-taking skills. There are examples and timed exercises. Subjects include reading, math and an answer key is included.

This will get your first grader over the hump of taking a standardized test and will build confidence in timed test exercises. I recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars preparation for what may lay ahead..., August 7, 2000
This review is from: Test Prep Grade 1: Standardized Test-Taking Skills for Reading, Math, and Language (McGraw-Hill Learning Materials Spectrum) (Paperback)
Since I homeschool and do not have to require my son to take any tests while a student I believe it is important to give him the opportunity to experiment with samples of what testing is like in order to prepare him for any future testing which may come up with in his education experience out side our own. This book has many positive qualities that can assist with testing comprehension: filling in answers like that on a public school test and many questions formated as state tests would by offering multiple choice. Although most of the questions are manageable I found some to be a bit confusing for myself as well as my son. This is a new format for us which may be part of the reason for any unsure perception of the material. I would recommend taking a look at the prep book before purchase to ensure this style is right for you and your child.
