The title of this book is almost deceptive. You might think that this is just another treatise on "discovering your psychic potential," but it is actually a respectable work that repeatedly stresses the importance of the scientific method. It stands out amid the alarming number of books that claim to teach readers how to tap into hidden psychic abilities, yet provide no quantifiable evidence to prove that the methods work, or even that psychic ability exists. The experiments employed in Test Your Psychic Powers have long been used by parapsychologists in their quest to validate the existence of psychic abilities, and are designed to minimize the possibility of erroneous conclusions. It is obvious that authors Susan Blackmore and Adam Hart-Davis know what they're talking about, and while they provide plenty of case histories supporting the existence of psychic phenomena, they leave the final judgement up to readers.

I suspect a microencephalic aardvark has more psychic ability than I do, but I looked at this book to see if there was any help for over-educated but psychically benighted Neanderthals like myself. Unfortunately, they don't tell you know to acquire these esoteric abilities, but for those lucky souls who already possess mental powers far beyond those of us mere mortals, this book is full of interesting tests if you want to test your psychic quotient, so to speak.
