I have many life roles that this little blue book serviced so well: foster parent, college instructor, psychotherapist and victim witness advocate. Here's how I used it...

Test Success was my voice to my foster kids about how to be a successful student (ever try to tell a teen anything???). I made a deal: you read this book and do what it says or listen to me nag you. They read, their grades went up, attendance at school improved, confidence in their abilities went up. That alone is priceless!

As a college instructor for test anxiety/test skills classes, the workbook was a complete course outline-- approachable, not condescending (ever try to tell a college student anything???) or minimalistic. Every line was helpful information, examples, practical how-to's etc. Also, Ben's personal letter to the class was very impactful; they felt honored by his genuine outreach to help make their lives better. Students have asked administration to make it required reading- a miracle!

In my private practice, the relaxation skills were very helpful for my anxious clients and bridged over to an anger management group I ran. Multi-purpose!

Victims preparing for the court process found they could use the book to help them be calm, confident and focused amidst the terror of describing their trauma again.

I can't thank Ben enough for writing this book, except by using it everywhere I can. It gets results!

Considering the short attention spans of my teenage sons, I was elated that this book engaged their interest and they absorbed and used the skills from the content. The bright blue cover with large bolded font TEST SUCCESS screamed the objective they were trying to accomplish towards college goals and they immediately thumbed through to find some quick secrets. They initially focused in on the bolded call-outs within the text and margins and got the key points. The interior of the book is dotted with entertaining illustrations and shaded boxes containing discernible bullets of critical ideas that helped hold their attention enough to develop interest in reading the book. There are 9 tools to learn to help improve test scores and a model of 3 basic elements with many ideas throughout the book how to emulate those elements to achieve better test scores. My son used this to help prep for the SAT and he was able to focus a lot better using the techniques in the book. Every high school counselor and library should have this on their shelf of resources to help students do better on the SAT and highschool tests.

As a trainer/educator and an early proponent of maximizing individual learning based not just on learning styles but designing learning with the emotional brain in mind, I have learned from others, discovered much for myself and occasionally found books on the subjects that have offered a useful idea or two.

When I met Ben Bernstein, I was immediately impressed with his integrity but most of all with his passion for helping people excel. It was obvious that his engaging personality made his a good coach for people who weren't willing to settle for less than achieving their highest potential.

What blew me away was when I starting reading his book. It was so compelling, made so much sense and felt so much like a conversation with the author that I wasn't able to put it down until I had finished. Every re-read brings new insights I find immensely valuable professionally.

Trust me, this isn't a book of superficial "tips" for test takers. It is a based on a dynamic model that sets the learner on a powerful journey of self discovery by practicing a customized set of strategies they can employ in preparation for as well as as utilize real time during examinations.

A life time of reaching ones highest aspirations based on "unconscious competence" is possible for individuals who commit to and embrace Dr Bernstein's model.

The 411 by Maria:

This book is beneficial to anyone in school. Whether you are in Middle or High School, College or have gone back to school as an adult, the cut right to it information is easy to follow.

Mr. Bernstein's section on Dealing with Distraction is worth the amount of the book. Distraction was my biggest culprit in school and the three tools Mr. Bernstein mentions Stop, Look At What You Are Doing, Listen and Fulfill are easy lessons to follow and will have you sitting up taller in your chair because your confidence level will get a much needed boost and your butt the kick in the pants it needs to really achieve what it is you want out of yourself.

Be the best you can be and with books like these you can't lose

Why didn't I have this book when I was helping my students and my own children pass tests? Or when I was faced with tests myself? It would have made things so much easier. How often I tripped myself up in all sorts of ways when I was studying so that I never let myself really learn the material well. And then when it came test time, oh brother! Call it nerves, negative thoughts, whatever. But Bernstein offers ways to deal with all that. And that's what other test taking books and courses don't speak to. He shows how to study, how to take tests and most importantly how to succeed. His techniques, which are just so sensible, aren't hard, don't take months to learn, and can be practiced while you're also concentrating on learning the material for the test. And what he writes about doesn't just apply to written tests. His methods have definitely helped my stage performances and even, I'm happy to say, my tennis game.
