1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, April 23, 2008
This review is from: Test Yourself: Basic Mathematics (Paperback)
I bought this book in hopes that it would help me teach myself better mathematical skills. However this book only has about 1 page of mixed review, per category. The book doesn't really go into any depth of the individual topics. Then after the review the book goes on to do a generic test on the concepts reviewed.

I suppose that this book would be good if you are already advanced in math or in such a case as in high school and need to refresh yourself from a prolonged break, but for those of us who are no longer in school and are looking to learn some key principles in algebra I highly recommend you seek out a new book.

As far as the book itself I found the quality lacking. The binding allows the pages to be perforated for easy removal, however they fall out just reading through the book, so your left with a book full of detached pages.

Detailed sections of the book and skills that it reflects are as follows:

Whole numbers

Fractions

Decimals

Ratio and Proportion

Percents

Measurement and Geometry

Signed numbers

Introduction to Polynomials

Polynomials

Most of the review sections in the above categories are breaking the problems down and identifying what each section is called.

Example from the whole numbers review section:

Commutative Property of Multiplication- Changing the order of the factors does not change the product.
