Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!, February 23, 2006
I bought this album on a whim - I never heard of this artist before (she hasn't reached us here in Ireland!) but I liked the sample music I was hearing on Amazon.com. When I got her album, it blew my mind! It is fantastic. I LOVE it and can't stop listening to it!! Dana Glover's music is fantastic, each song is a gem and worth listenting to. For a debut album it is a very strong piece of work. Her music style is a good mix of gospel and jazz.
She is a woman of many talents - singer, musician, writer... None of her songs disappoint. She has a very strong, wonderful voice and is a talented musician. I eagerly await her second album and hope it comes out soon!

THIS WOMAN IS A GIFT!!!, October 21, 2002
Dana Glover is familiar - yet unique. We know her style thanks to the recent sucess of Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton... a young woman with an instrument, and a talent - but she is a young woman with a voice and a talent that blows any competition away. Her gorgeous and ever so real and slightly raspy voice might remind you of a young Amy Grant - yet she delivers the most brilliant, heartfelt and beautiful performance presented to the American public in over a decade. This woman is the real deal. She is a gift to the world of music. Her songs made me cry and laugh... it sounds so cliche... but she really does it. She is so talented and on the verge of exploding... you need to own this album before it is a collector's item on ebay. And no, I do not know her. But, anyone who appriciates music needs to own this album. It is seriously the best, most beautiful, most solid recording I have heard in many years. Bluesy - Norah Jones fans will love it... Pretty... Sarah McLaughin fans will love it... Jazzy - Nikka Costa fans will love it. This woman has it all. She is the next big thing. Get this album now. You will not regret it.

A truely beautiful person inside and out. And really good music., November 10, 2005
Dana Glover; Where to start?
I guess I should start with her music. ;)
I first heard Dana on the movie 'Raising Helen'. Her song, 'Thinking Over', was the first song I ever heard of hers. It is, in my opinion, one of the best songs in a very long time.
The first song on the CD, 'Rain', is a radio ready, hit-just-waiting-to-happen song. The emotion that she sings into this song is almost overwhelming. The song PERFECTLY reflects loneliness, sadness, and a loning to be loved and have a purpose in this world. Dana wrestles with herself and God to not only figure out why God could love her when no one else would, and why God would allow her to go through the things that she has suffered through. Finally, when she is about to just off a building and kill herself, she tells God that if there is something more in her life, that she will give herself to him. She sings flawlessly, and makes you truely feel sad for her.
'Thinking Over', track #2, perfectly captures the point in your life when you reach a crossroad, and are forced to choose one path or the other. Her performance is very emotional; strikingly raw. Dana literaly bears her heart and soul for all to see (and hear). It can bring you to tears. It is pretty obvious that this song was truely inspired by more than just emotion. This is by far the best song on her CD. Her vocals meet and at times surpass those of some of the greatest singers of our time. You fully buy into her and her song; you are pulled into a totally different world with Dana's voice as your guide. It is one of those songs that you never really get tired of.
'Almost Had It All' is yet another emtional song by Dana. However, it doesn't even compare to the levels of pure emotion that her first two tracks convay. This song finds Dana rightfully telling her ex-husband/ex-boyfriend how he almost 'had it all'. It is a true testimony to how many men today leave thier wives/girlfriends and not realize just how much they truely had. As they say, you don't know how good you had it until it's gone. The musical arrangement and Dana's piano is almost perfect, and with Dana's vioce makes a great, if a bit long and slightly boring, song.
Track four, 'Cherish', is one of the most bold statements about life and how you live your life. This slow, slightly upbeat and hypnotizing song gives her listeners a very valuable bit of advice; Cherish every moment of your life, cause at any momet, it could be over. And to cherish the ones you love, because they could be gone in the twinkling of an eye........
The whole song seems like a subtle hint towards the Rapture, fortold in the Bible.
At this point, I am gonna completely skip tracks 5-10, because, to be completely honest, they are really boring. There isn't really anything special about them, and they all sound practically the same. However, Dana is a masterful singer, and does her best with them. And you might actually like one or more of them. But, since I have to interest in them at all, I shall skip over them all, and go directly to the last track, 'Testimony'.
'Testimony' is one of the most outright fun songs that I've heard in a long time. It is in the style of a Sunday morning black church chior song, and is simply delightful. We see Dana celebrating her love, the man whom she wants to spend the rest of her life with. It is rare in today's music spectrum that you find a song celebrating love and wanting to marry the person whom you are in love with. And because of these things, 'Testimony' is a rare and simply joyful song that can pick you up whenever you listen to it.
Dana's performance on this song really reflects the lyrics; a girl who is simply giddy with her one true love, and can't contain her joy and happyness. She is a treat for the ear on this one, as she is is practicly ever song she performs.
Over all, Dana's debut CD is a strong one, with several strong, hits-in-waiting. While she has her own style, her music has a noticable gospel sound and theme to it. When listening to her, she is likely to remind you of other hugely talented singer/songwriters of our time. She really reminds me of Carly Simon; she seems able to capture the perfect tone, feelings, and emotion for a song, both in song writing and singing. However, she still has quite a bit of learning and growing to do before she can join the ranks of other hugely talented kindred souls in the music industry.
Rating: 5 stars out of 5 stars
Bottom Line: I strongly recommend this CD. It has many inspiring and emotionally raw song that provide many enjoyable listenings. A true find.
